New Music | G.Love – Fixin To Die

Fixin To Die

I’ve been following G.Love since ‘Baby’s Got Sauce’, been to lots of his live shows, I’ve got nearly all of his albums; he’s poised to release yet another one coming up in February.

His new album, titled ‘Fixin to Die’ recorded at Echo Mountain Church in North Carolina; was produced and played on by Seth and Scott Avett.  The title track, Fixin to Die, originally written by Booker T Washington White, is a blues track with all the foot stomping, hand clapping rhythms and G. Love’s trademark vocals and blues harmonica.  The production sounds really great and I look forward to getting to dig in to this album come February.

  1. I can’t help but feel like the Avett Brother’s grew out of their core-competency too quickly. Once upon a time, they reeked of authentic, accessible bluegrass, but seemed to jump the festival-circuit plateau in to more popular waters. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but I think when I saw the Avett Brother’s ‘I and Love and You’ in Starbucks, I knew the end of the world was coming…

In any event, this is a cool take on the basic G-Love elements, and the acoustic guitar is a nice touch. This track is fun and unique, I will definitely buy the album when it releases.

  2. I still think they are the same band. I don’t feel like they will (shudders) sell out, nor have they. They have just gotten big enough to attract great producers (rubin) so they sound more clean.

But if you see them live, its the same old band we all fell in love with.
