Last night while I was at the Newport Folk Fest lineup party the entertainment for the party was this band I hadn’t heard anything about. Not sure how I missed it, but these guys were totally amazing. Brown Bird, is a rootsy American folk band that seems to frequent the dark side of those influences. The music can be haunting, it can have foot stomping rhythm, and its always quite beautiful. For just a two piece, the music is remarkably full sounding (thanks to David Lamb’s one-man band ability … and his amazing beard).
The Rhode Island based band has been around since ’03 and is currently working on a fifth album to be released this fall. Subsequently, they’ll be releasing an EP ‘The Sound of Ghosts’ which will be available May 10th on Supply & Demand Music. A digital version is available now on their Bandcamp. Another great newsworthy item is they will be playing this years Newport Folk Festival whose lineup was announced yesterday.
This is awesome. I’m gonna have to put them on my dream list of groups to see in my dream world where I get to go to the Newport Folk Festival.
