Howlin Rain – Phantom In The Valley
Howlin Rain is a San Franciscan quintet whose psychedelic and labyrinth-like rock music evokes a feeling of golden ages of rock. Its a classic feel, thats modernized and evolved thanks to the help of Rick Rubin who signed them to his label (American Recordings). Their new single “Phantom in the Valley,” is a seven minute journey through music that evokes a passion and a regard to epic size. The song feels a bit schizophrenic at the turn near 4:30 where it takes a Santana, or maybe Steely Dan-like turn. It’s ambitious to say the least, and an interesting sound. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of this upcoming album, The Russian Wilds (2/14/12).
