New Music | Benjamin Francis Leftwich – In the Open

[S]et to release a new EP, “In the Open,” crooner Benjamin Francis Leftwich recently released a first single, the title track of the EP.  His wistful vocals are in full lament over this haunting track that seems sorrowful but has a dash of optimism in it.  Its a gorgeous track and shows off Leftwich’s wonderful voice.  Suffice to say you can hear a bit of Nick Drake and Elliott Smith within his music.  Check out this single, and look for his new record EP in November.

Lastly, Leftwich will be touring throughout North America, so check below for a date in your city.  We are lucky enough to have have coming in early December at the ever wonderful Cafe 939, the perfect place for a cold night and an intimate show.

Video | To Kill a King – Howling

[B]ritish Folk rockers T o Kill a King’s recently released this fantastic video for their single “Howling,” off of their latest release the Word of Mouth EP.  The video is made up of over 5000 photos taken over the course of 30 hours.  The ban’s singer Ralph Pelleymounter was required to sit perfectly still as they shot over a weekend.  A hectic shot for sure, but its well worth it, as it looks amazing. Grab the bands digital version of the EP totally free from the band’s Bandcamp page – http://tokillaking.bandcamp.com/.

What can we do to prepare for the dark and cold besides hoarding whiskey and purchasing a sun lamp? Fear not music lovers, the answer lies in the soothing sounds of the 5-song EP delivered with love, and a shot of south-western sunshine, to help us make it through. The opening track, “CA-2,” is filled with harmonica, jangly-guitars, and ends in a chorus of “ba-ba-bahs,” all of which will make any…

Video | Bon Iver – Beth/Rest

[B]on Iver’s got a new video out for Beth/Rest, and it’s a pretty spot on video for such an atmospheric 80s tune. It’s the story of otherworldly love: think part Fern Gulley, part Avatar.  Bon Iver guitarist Mike Noyce stars in it, as one of the two lovers and if you make it through to the end, you get a few glimpses of the band, shining in bright light jamming out on some saxophone solos. It’s actually pretty hilarious. Which is  why I’ve always appreciated this song. Yes it’s ridiculous, and hilarious, but it’s damn good too. For those…
