[L]ondon-based band Daughter is stopping by Cafe 939 tonight to kick off their first US tour.
One of the most promising new voices from London, Daughter is Elena Tonra (plus her boyfriend guitarist and a drummer), a 21-year-old who has put out a few EPs that are unbelievably heartbreaking and beautiful. One listen to Landfill should explain exactly why everyone is talking about Elena. “Throw me in the water, don’t think about the splash I will create,” she begs on the opening verse. “I want you so much, but I hate your guts,” she concludes on the chorus. These are lyrics that will rip your heart out, but delivered with a beautifully voice that almost makes you forget what she’s saying. You definitely have to check this band out.
And Denmark-based Choir of Young Believers will open. Their recently released sophomore album Rhine Gold should provide just the right amount of emotional and grounded folk that is perfect as an prelude to Daughter.
