After spending time with High On Tulsa Heat and catching the the all-too-brief John Moreland set during the Wildwood Revival showcase at Newport Folk Festival, I promised myself a return trip to see a full performance would make it’s way to my calendar as soon as I recovered from the weekend.

As I made my way to Great Scott on the chilly November evening that finally afforded me that opportunity, I had full expectation of being partisan to a performance that captured those close enough to Moreland to feel the emotion in his performance. What I didn’t expect was for the entire place to be rendered nearly silent. Truthfully, I’ve been going to Great Scott for about 20 years (18 if you’re a cop) and while GS has played host to some of my favorite shows, one thing the place has never been is quiet. This past Wednesday’s show changed that. And with good reason.

If you’re in the vicinity of one of John’s shows, don’t even hesitate.
