Song of the Week | Anna St. Louis – The Bells

The new WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” shines brightly on the amazing new song, “The Bells,” from Kansas City-born, Los Angeles-based musician Anna St. Louis. It’s the second single from her forthcoming debut album, If Only There Was a River, out October 12 on Woodsist / Mare Records.

St. Louis began her songwriting career upon her arrival to the city of angels five years ago. She released a cassette tape of songs through Woodsist / Mare Records titled, First Songs, which received praise from the likes of NPR’s All Songs Considered and Stereogum. On the strength of these songs she was able to bring in Kyle Thomas of King Tuff and Kevin Morby (both musicians also play on the single) to produce her debut album.

“The Bells” is an instantly satisfying listen. The music slowly builds as instruments are gently added to the beginning percussion/plucking strings intro which swirl around like a warm summer breeze on the tranquil prairie that is St. Louis’ soulful voice. I’ve already listened a dozen times and it keeps getting better with each play.
