Review + Photos | Newport Folk Festival Presents: Wheeler Brothers, The Ballroom Thieves, & Houndmouth @ The Royale Boston

[L]ast week a warm Southern breeze worked it’s way up through the Midwest and blew out the doors of the Royale here in Boston. On November 14th those lucky enough to know a stellar line-up when they see it were treated to a wild rumpus of a good time when the Wheeler Brothers and Houndmouth tour pulled into town. The two bands hit the road together two weeks ago and called upon local favorites The Ballroom Thieves to join in on the fun. The packed crowd expected to stomp their Boston boots and raise their beers in glory…and they did!…

Saturday at Newport Folk 2016 in Photos

Saturday at the Folk Fest… Remember our Friday Folk post where the discussion of cloning oneself so that you could catch all the acts came to life. Well Saturday’s lineup had me tossing and turning trying to figure out how to pull off something of this magnitude for perfect Music Savage coverage. In hindsight I should have gotten a few hours more sleep but that’s neither here nor there. Let’s get to the folkin’ amazingness that was Day 2 shall we? What we saw on the Fort Stage. Nashville troubadour Rayland Baxter kicked off the day’s performances here to an enthusiastic crowd who…

Friday at Newport Folk 2016 in Photos

Friday at the Folk Fest… Really very hard to believe that we are already a week removed from the shear greatness that was NFF ’16 and all we have now are our memories to keep us going through the normal routine of our lives. Nothing wrong with that of course. If we all were to spend every weekend like that, surrounded by great music and amazing people in a spectacular location, would they be as special as the fourth week of July? Yes! Friday. Opening day. People arriving to the Fort in droves via ferry, bike, bus, teleportation. Maybe not…

Photos | Bahamas at Great Scott

[W]e caught Bahamas last weekend on Saturday, as Boston welcomed Afie Jurvanen into a sold out Great Scott. Bahamas was celebrating the latest album release “Bahamas is Afie” which was just as good live as it the record, and we L-O-V-E the record. It was a jam packed crowd surrounding the stage as Jurvanen entertained with both music and story. Starting the night off was Canadian project, Weather Station, whose subtle, wistful and thought provoking folk music was on full display. Be sure to check out some of favorite shots from the evening by our very own Jamie Reiley.

Review + Photos | Deer Tick @ Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel

[L]ast week on Friday, March 14 Providence Rhode Island welcomed home their very own Deer Tick a band that really needs no introduction. Their live shows have always defined who they are as a band, and over the years it has matured and gotten better and better. We were lucky enough to take in this great performance that included songs from the latest album Negativity as well as many of the fan favorites that had the Tickheads singing along. Be sure to check out some of favorite shots from the evening by our very own Jamie Reiley.

Beck [I]t’s hard to believe that the festival was just last weekend. Sunday was a welcome repeat of clear skies and a warm sun shining down on the Fort. Among the numerous performers were Cold Specks, Andrew Bird, Tift Merritt, The Felice Brothers, Spirit Family Reunion, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Joe Fletcher, Michael Kiwanuka, The Lumineers and a grand finale with Beck. Enjoy the final in photos from our photographer, Jamie Reiley, and let us know what your favorite act or acts…
