New Music | Night Beds – Even If We Try

[N]ight Beds is the bedroom project of Winston Yellen of Nashville. Months ago, he was signed to Dead Oceans and just now they are starting to push his wonderful music on the world. If you had been following along, I had posted a few of his tracks, gorgeous, melodic baroque – folk tracks with soaring vocals tender layers of string accompaniments that create a really beautiful aural soundscape. The single, was released today via Dead Oceans.

Review | Grizzly Bear – Shields

[B]ack in 2009, the Brooklyn foursome Grizzly Bear released their third studio album Veckatimest, placing on and topping many year-end Best of 2009 lists. Though it was their third effort, it was the album that garnered them wide acclaim and solidified their spot as one of indie rock’s elite. But it’s been almost 4 years since and now the guys, Ed, Dan, Chris and Chris are back with Shields. For the past few months, I’ve had Sleeping Ute and Yet Again on repeat. But just as I had to do with last week’s Coexist by the XX (another band following…

Review | Bon Iver at the BOA Pavilion

Calgary – Bon Iver [B]on Iver passed through Boston last Thursday night, playing to a packed crowd at the BOA Pavilion, with Anais Mitchell opening. Making the last of their rounds in support of their 2nd studio album, the guys put on a truly fantastic show playing favorites from both their full-length albums as well as the It can — easily looks title something for something. New Music | Andrew Combs – Worried Man

[bandcamp track=38341355 bgcol=FFFFFF linkcol=4285BB size=grande]

[N]ashville’s Andrew Combs has been featured a few times here, and for good reason. His brand of country / folk / americana music is filled with poignant songs of heartbreak, wonderfully written, and sang with a heartfelt emotion that feels very genuine. Over the months leading up to now, I’ve been hearing Andrew had been recording for a record, and it is now about to be realized. Come October 30th, Combs will release Worried Man, a brand new album that I can tell you I’m already in love with.

Check out the title track from the upcoming record as its above streaming, and available for download from Combs’ Bandcamp.

New Music | Weinland – Another Dollar Rainy Day

[E]very day it seems as though we are hearing about another Portland OR band releasing a fantastic song, record or what have you. The music scene is so robust someone like me just hopes that each great band somehow finds its way to my ears. Enter Weinland, they’ve been a mainstay in the PNW for years now, and are independantly releasing their next record Los Processaur in November. Check out their single “Another Dollar Rainy Day,” a jangly folk/rock track that is effervescent, bouncy, and full of energy. The song’s gang harmonies lead the listener into a sing-songy head bobbin…

Review | David Byrne & St. Vincent – Love This Giant

[T]he music world has been waiting three years for Love This Giant, the first collaborative album from David Byrne and St. Vincent, and the wait has been very worthwhile. The musical love affair between the elder statesman of avant-garde rock and his protégée, Annie Clark, began back in the fall of 2009, when they both played the Dark Was the Night benefit show in New York. The two appeared on stage together here and there over the next few years, each contributing to various music projects, while slowly putting the pieces together for their first album. Love This Giant starts…
