New Music | Bridge Underwater – So What

Bridge Underwater – So What [O]ne man recording project turned full on band, Bridge Underwater, has another sweet little indie pop track “So What,” a retro-pop sounding track that could nestle itself somewhere near Girls’ atmosphere, though it feels a lot more upbeat and less lonely.  The song jangles with glimmering guitars and a slight tremble in the vocals.  At two minutes, this little gem is just not enough for us, but it seems as though these guys are ramping up their output since the band has formed as more than a bedroom recording project.  Really looking forward to a full on…

New Music | The Sheepdogs – The Way It Is

[L]ast year, Saskatchewan’s The Sheepdogs won Rolling Stone’s cover issue and became the first unsigned band to adorn the cover of the magazine.  Since then the boys have been touring like crazed madmen, and they found some time record their debut album (and heck it was even produced by Patrick Carney.) That track was released recently and when I heard its guitar driven rock track that’s got a little snarl to it, which feels a little bit like Carney’s influence, a bluesy rock track that is going to remind a lot of people of the Keys… which won’t be a surprise.…

New Music | Blonds – Time

[B]rooklyn via Florida’s BLONDS, are releasing another killer track coming from their forthcoming debut full length, The Bad Ones, which hits August 7th.  “Time,” is being released today and is a superbly emotive slow burner track that’s intimate and really melodious. There is something about the vocal track on BLONDS’ songs that gives off this intimacy, it almost feels romantic, as if the room is dark, the candles are lit, and you shouldn’t be watching.

New Music | Patterson Hood – Come Back Little Star

Patterson Hood – Come Back Little Star [P]atterson Hood is releasing his third solo record titled,  Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance, on September 11th on ATO Records.  Originally starting out as a fiction that Hood was writing, as it fizzled the songs kept pouring out.  “Come Back Little Star,” is the first single off the record, co-written with Kelly Hogan as Hood states “I co-wrote this song with my dear friend Kelly Hogan, who also came in to sing it with me. She began the lyrics as a song for our late dear friend Vic Chesnutt and I re-wrote it with the intention…

Review | Air Traffic Controller – Nordo

Air Traffic Controller – Blame [B]oston native and former US Navy air traffic controller Dave Munro makes a triumphant return to the music world with the much-anticipated second album from Air Traffic Controller, titled Nordo. With the help of 150 fans and a little site called Kickstarter, Munro was able to release his follow up to 2009’s The One in June and give his fans what they have been waiting for these past few years… an amazing collection of new songs! Nordo opens with one of the catchiest tracks I have heard in years, “Hurry Hurry,” and it quickly becomes…

New Music | Turbo Fruits – Harley Dollar Bill$

[G]arage-Rock-Band Turbo Fruits are releasing a single off of their upcoming album Butter, titled “Harley Dollar Bill$” as their ode to two wheeled motorized transportation.  I’ve been a fan of these guys for the last few years, their brand of fuzzed, garage rock… it’s full of youthful energy that feels full of irreverence.

Look for Butter on 9/11

New Music | Menomena – Heavy Is As Heavy Does

[A]rt Rockers Menomena have gone thru some changes over the last months.  They are down to a 2 piece, but are releasing a brand new album titled Moms, on September 18th.  This here is the first track from the highly anticipated new album, and what can I say, I’m really enjoying this one.  The band has been known for massive creativity & alternative song structures and they’ve still got it in spades.  The song begins as a piano ballad about their “fucked up family,” and opens up with synth feedbacks, a funky bassline, and a ripping guitar solo. Couldn’t be…

New Music | Blonde Summer – Slow Days Fast Company

Blonde Summer – Slow Days Fast Company [S]ummertime music should bring back those feelings of being a kid again, the days of languid lounging, poolside without a care in the world, the kind of life you had before you went to work. That’s exactly what Blonde Summer’s “Slow Days Fast Company” makes me feel.  The LA band explores pop infused surf rock, and expectedly is sundrenched, melodious and effervescent, perfect for those slacker days of the summer. “Slow Days Fast Company,” appears on their upcoming sophomore EP Slow Daze, out July 31st.

New Music | Fletcher C. Johnson – Send Me Your Love

[O]n tips from blogger friends Everybody Taste and New Music Collective I ended up listening to this summertime gem, and wow were they ever right.  It’s extremely too short at a running length of two minutes and twelve seconds of toothache sweet retro pop a la the Ronettes. Guaranteed you’ll be reaching for the repeat button. The track appears on their latest album which was released on cassette from Burger Records.
