Miike Snow – Devil’s Work Check out a brand new track from Miike Snow, “Devil’s Work,” a moody electronic piano based track that pulls from their old formula. What made their ’09 debut effort such a hit shows up once again, synth ornamentations that sort of jump out of nowhere, the build up on sound, the semi-danceworthy club elements, a driving beat, and some moody motifs all make this one whet the palette for more.

Band of Skulls, are slated to release a sophomore album on Vagrant Records in February 2012, and we’re getting another taste from their upcoming album. Check out “Sweet Sour,” the title track off the upcoming album. “Sweet Sour,” a heavy riffed, blues rock drenched power ballad. This is exactly where I thought this album should go, just like their last, a total punch in the face of rock & roll. See you on February 21st. Facebook | Youtube | Twitter | Web
Leave a CommentJack Wilson – Valhalla Austin’s folk-pop songwriter Jack Wilson is on the cusp of releasing his debut album on Fluff & Gravy Records. As of March 6, 2012, the record will release and it will contain the sweet little dreamy love song “Valhalla,” a tenderly strummed and warmly sung folk/americana sound wrapped into this beautiful package. Its a bit grandiose and a bit tender and Wilson’s voice seems to perfectly fit the situation. If the rest of the album is this good I’m going to be one happy guy. Leave a CommentFort Frances – The Lowlands Check out this new track from Chicago folk three piece Fort Frances. Maybe you missed it, but I posted on their absolutely gorgeous video and song “Cities in Dust.” At the time, they were giving away their album The Atlas (one which I enjoyed quite a bit), and today they are releasing a brand new track titled “Lowlands,” an ambling acoustic ballad. Their music is a healthy dose of folk/acoustic and singer David McMillin’s voice is perfect for the poignancy of this song. The stripped down nature of the song makes it feel all that…
1 CommentSad Baby Wolf – 8th Level Sad Baby Wolf – Survival Guide Sad Baby Wolf is a new project from ex Shins’ keyboardist Marty Crandall. Along with former member Neal Langford and some friends, Sad Baby Wolf was created. The first licks from these guys, is 8th Level and Survival Guide. Two tracks that shimmer in a semi-dreamlike (reverb drizzled) state which feels a little bit Shins but with a more rock focus. 8th Level, is at its core, is the rock-rooted foot stomper, and Survival Guide the more psychedelic slow burner. They display quite a bit of range and…
Leave a CommentHowlin Rain – Phantom In The Valley Howlin Rain is a San Franciscan quintet whose psychedelic and labyrinth-like rock music evokes a feeling of golden ages of rock. Its a classic feel, thats modernized and evolved thanks to the help of Rick Rubin who signed them to his label (American Recordings). Their new single “Phantom in the Valley,” is a seven minute journey through music that evokes a passion and a regard to epic size. The song feels a bit schizophrenic at the turn near 4:30 where it takes a Santana, or maybe Steely Dan-like turn. It’s ambitious to say…
