Tonight | Dawes at The Wang Center

Dawes – If I Wanted Someone Dawes’ sophomore album Nothing is Wrong released back in June, and I was a huge supporter of the stunning lyrics and a 70’s styled folk sensibility they displayed on the album. But one thing that is different about a Dawes album and a Dawes show is just how absolutely fantastic they truly are. The band has been touring relentlessly since they released the album and are stopping here in Boston tonight to open for the incomparable Alison Krauss. For those in the stands tonight that aren’t aware of just how fantastic this Californian band…

New Music | The Wandas – Do Or Die

The Wandas – Do or Die “Do or Die” is the second released track from Boston’s The Wandas upcoming self-titled album out at the end of August (30th). The 60’s and 70’s rock influences are evident on this very catchy track that has one of the most memorable and brain-adhering chorus lines that you won’t get tired of listening to again and again. This album is shaping up to be a major breakthrough for a Boston band that has a fantastic timeless sound that I think a lot of people are really going to enjoy. Good luck getting this track…

New Music | Steel Phantoms – Forer EP

Steel Phantoms – Bedouin Steel Phantoms is a Brooklyn based rock band started by longtime friends Aaron Harris (formerly of Islands) and Yos Munro. Last week, they released their next EP (Forer EP) I got the chance to listen to their EP (available on their bandcamp) and no doubt its even better than the last. The EP was recorded in a converted home / studio in Hartford CT. With influences from XTC the Cure & the Smiths this little gem of an EP has a new…

Review | Gillian Welch – The Harrow & The Harvest

Gillian Welch – Hard Times   It’s been some eight years since Gillian Welch has released an album. So this past month’s The Harrow and the Harvest is long awaited, and to state it simply: well worth it. As one of the most well-recognized names in americana, bluegrass and folk, it’s a bit surprising that Welch didn’t grow up in the south or listen to folk or bluegrass until later in her life. Born in New York City, she moved to California with her adoptive parents, and first listened to Dylan and Guthrie in high school. At UC Santa Cruz,…

New Music | Girls – Vomit

Girls – Vomit

Impossible to google San Francisco band, Girls have just released the bomb on all of us total nerds.  The first cut from their upcoming sophomore EP Father, Son, Holy Ghost, entitled Vomit.  Vomit is an ambitious, epic, and sprawling six and a half minute rock and roll song that’s extremely exciting to listen to.  A somber slow start ramps up and up as Owens and company enlist the use of screeching guitar solos, organs, heavy drums, and a gaggle of backup singers that complete the mix with all the oohs, ahhs, and screams you could want.  One of the most fun moments of the year.  Extremely exciting to know we’re not too far away from the highly anticipated release of this album (9/13).

Get listening, and lick your lips at their touring schedule.

Live dates now on sale now for U.S.

New Music | Nikki Lane – Gone Gone Gone

Nikki Lane – Gone, Gone, Gone by iamsoundrecords Songstress Nikki Lane’s path to music isn’t a normal one.  Moving out of her native South Carolina, Lane left for the bright lights of LA and bounced around until landing in NY where she started penning her first songs while dejected about her boyfriend being away in Atlanta recording his own album.  Writing in her apartment in NY it all started pouring out, “I wrote a whole album in a month’s time and just decided I was going to make a record in Nashville. It was like my revenge record.”  Her songs…
