New Music | Peter Wolf Crier – Right Away

Peter Wolf Crier – Right Away Peter Wolf Crier’s second album, Garden of Arms, will be released on September 6 on Jagjaguwar. This album will follow up Inter-Be their 2010 debut. Their first single off the upcoming album is Right Away, a song composed of multiple instruments played at various speeds and directions, it gives it a experimental, almost dream like state. It’s very reminiscent of early Menomena sounds and is a bit of a change from the indie folk debut. It’s an interesting endeavor and it certainly piques my curiosity.

Video | AB & the Sea – In the Sunshine

Poppy, exuberant, and really catchy, AB & the Sea released a new video today for their brand new single ‘In the Sunshine.’ I have been following these midwestern turned west coasters for a while now, they keep pounding out really catchy melodious tracks. This is the most pop-accessible I’ve heard from them, which usually deters me, but go ahead and give it a spin. It’s hard to turn it off. More AB & the Sea

Video | Other Lives – For 12

Check out the video Other Lives’ For 12 a surreal sounding song off of their recently released album ‘Tamer Animals.’ When I originally heard the song, it seemed as though it would be something very cinematic and fantastical. But the visuals I saw in my head were deep wooded area with the band gently playing the song… and this space odyssey is not at all that. But it strangely fits the song. Tamer Animals is one fantastic and beautiful album that you’ve got to hear (especially fans of Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes).

Review | The Barr Brothers at the Lizard Lounge

Barr Brothers – “Beggar In The Morning” by indiemusicfilter Montreal-based quartet The Barr Brothers played a set Tuesday evening that was perfectly suited for the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. Small round tables lined the edge of the stage, and The Barr Brothers – featuring Brad Barr on guitar and vocals, Andrew Barr on drums and guitar, Sarah Page on the harp and Andres Vial on just about everything else – played for almost an hour and a half. Their sound, which is somewhere between folk, bluegrass and rock, is made unique by the addition of the harp. Because of the…

Photos | James Vincent McMorrow

If I Had a Boat Wednesday night saw the supremely talented James Vincent McMorrow come to town and open up for Bell X1.  The quiet nature of his beautiful voice was unfortunately outweighed by some really loud conversations within the crowd.  Unfortunate for the fans in the crowd trying to hear McMorrow’s crooning falsettos, and soothing ‘oooohs’ but still he delighted those of us respectful enough to keep quiet.  It was specifically wonderful when his voice drowned out everyone during his powerful rendition of ‘If I Had a Boat.’  The pairing of him and Bell X1 is not exactly a…

Video | Vetiver – Wonder Why

I’m a big time fan of this new Vetiver track, just saw the video and artistically I think it is quite fitting for the carefree, breezy sound the song emanates. I imagined this to be a great driving / travelling song, and it seems as though the same theme is put into the video. Vetiver has a brand new album coming up Tuesday, June 14th and there’s a free limited edition scrapbook for the first 350 people to pre-order The Errant Charm from subpop.com.
