New Music | Art Imperial – Surf Suburban EP

Art Imperial – My Crystal Toronto’s Art Imperial just released a six-track EP entitled Surf Suburban EP. Wondering what a guy from Toronto is doing writing a Surf album, I inspected. Dreams of white beaches and blue waters pushed Art Imperial to record this EP in his mom’s basement and it is one beautiful EP. Frenetic guitars, shimmering vocals and all the reverb and distortion you could ever want. This is one fantastic lo fi “surf-pop” collection with songs that will consistently be stuck in your head, you will certainly enjoy this, I most definitely did. Art Imperial: Bandcamp |…

New Music | John Gold – Baby, It’s Your Life

John Gold – Baby It’s Your Life This song immediately pops out to me because of how much I loved Benji Hughes’ A Love Extreme.  Baby, Its Your Life appeared on Hughes’ fantastic debut album, and it is one of my favorite tracks from the album.  I hadn’t known until last week he and John Gold had written the song together.  By both parties, its a fantastic track that you’ll love to hear again and again. The track comes from Gold’s upcoming release, A Flower In Your Head, is coming out June 14 via Vagrant Records.

New Music | Robert Ellis – What’s In It For Me?

Robert Ellis – What’s In It For Me by NewWestRecords

I’ve been sitting down listening to Houston native Robert Ellis’ debut LP Photographs from New West Records. The first cut off the album is Ellis’ What’s In It For Me, its a gorgeous country ballad that could be stripped from George Jones’ catalog.  Ellis has a voice that’s sort of reminiscent of James Taylor… a soft vocal that’s great on the ears and can express a lot of sorrow (especially on this tune).  The drifting slide guitars and slow pace make this one perfect drinking alone song.

His album, Photographs, is a concept album split in two sides the a side being a more folksy dark side, and the b a full band country side.  The two distinct sides show some real fantastic artistry and pay homage to Ellis’ numerous influences.

Its an album I’ve been listening to non-stop for the last 3 days and I’m falling more and more in love with it.  His voice and the musicianship on here are astounding and will be beloved by fans of these genres.

Touring extensively in support of Photographs begins in May with a run up the West Coast including stops in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Robert will also take up a week long solo residency in Portland, followed by a full band July tour supporting the Old 97’s with shows in Nashville, Brooklyn and Chicago.

Get it Daddy – Sleeper Agent by bbgunpress

Kentucky’s Sleeper Agent released a new track titled, Get it Daddy, a rambunctious, irreverent, carefree rocking track that is pure speed for your ears. The gang harmonies, and explosive nature of the hookladen music is instantly bright and sunny and seems to be a little White Stripe influenced. Its fun music, that you just won’t want to stop listening to.

Currently the band is touring as an opener for Manchester Orchestra & Cage the Elephant:

The Elected – Babyface The Elected – Go For The Throat Yesterday, Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley), made his way back into music with his band The Elected.  He had been previously writing and directing a film and we all thought his music career was over.  The new album that was recorded during his break from music is titled ‘Bury Me In My Rings’ and it released yesterday on Vagrant Records.  Its a wonderful indie pop album that shimmers with jangly guitars, subtle organs.  For fans of Rilo Kiley, I wouldn’t doubt you’ll enjoy this album; its a very similar sound…

New Music | City and Colour – Northern Wind

City and Colour – Northern Wind by VagrantRecords City & Colour’s much anticipated third album, Little Hell, will be out June 7th. New song, “Northern Wind” is an absolutely haunting and stunning.  The instantly intimate song sprawls over 4 minutes of reverbed vocals over a simple and warm acoustic guitar. This is the second track City and Colour has released, the first being Fragile Bird, and it should generate some buzz as both of these songs are really wonderful to listen to. New Music | Kingsley Flood – I Don’t Wanna Go Home

Kingsley Flood – I Don’t Wanna Go Home NPR got the honors of releasing Boston’s Kingsley Flood’s brand new single, I Don’t Wanna Go Home. This song shows them stretching the genre of Americana with blues, horns & rock elements Kingsley Flood and redefining everything you’ve heard from them. If you haven’t seen them live, this song gives a better representation of how their live shows play out. A raucous head bobbing, foot stomping good time that makes you dance, holler at the top of your lungs like the protagonist in the song “I Don’t Wanna Go Home.” More Kingsley…

More Than You Can Feel Wave Country David Vandervelde hits the stage tonight here in Boston, and it promises to be a great night of music. If you’ve been following Vandervelde at all, which you should, he’s put out two fantastic albums, The Moonstation House Band and Waiting for the Sunrise, as well as an EP (Summer Hits).  I’ve been looking forward to getting to see him perform his music for a long while now, and he finally makes his way to Boston tonight. His music is highly influenced in T-Rex (Marc Bolan) and his Neil Youngian like slow burner of a…
