Wishlist | Newport Folk Fest 2013 – Part One

[A]s we near the end of winter we’ll all be thinking about long hot summer days, and of course, Newport Folk Festival. It’s become the must go event of the summer for many of the music lovers in the northeast, selling out the last few years, and this year quickly selling out on early bird tickets and three day passes.  There are still tickets available, but they are being gobbled up pretty quickly, and will soon cease to exist. All of this has been done by the NFF team without any formal spending in marketing, and remarkably without actually posting a lineup.

That lack of a lineup leaves a lot of us putting our faith in those that create the festival, and well, we’d love to put our input in … because well, we’ve got this outlet and we’re always eager to spread the gospel of the bands we love. So we were thinking, of the bands we all love who would we like to see most at Newport this summer?

If you haven’t already gotten tickets, I’d suggest you do so now, before they sell out. >> Buy Tickets <<

New Music | Dragon Inn 3 – Danger Zone

[bandcamp album=2756339654 bgcol=FFFFFF linkcol=4285BB size=grande] [P]hil Dickey, singer of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin has been keeping himself busy with a small side project called Dragon Inn 3. He teamed up with his sister Roni and music video director Brook Linder after composing the soundtrack for Linder’s short film Ghoul School, and then just kept on working on music for a future EP. They decided to cover a few 80’s gems including Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone (featured above) in full synth bliss. The cover is  even more exciting and bombastic than the classic, and even better they pulled…

Best Covers of 2012

[T]he art of the cover song is one all musicians have practiced at some point in their lives, some just stick with us more than others. 2012 was filled with fantastic covers, but after a very *ahem* scientific study, the ones below were last year’s stand outs. In our minds and hearts anyway… 1. Heart of Mine (Bob Dylan) Blake Mills, Danielle Haim and Taylor Goldsmith | Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan 2. Reason to Believe (Bruce Springsteen) Adam Arcuragi | Long Distance Salvation [bandcamp track=1964161024 bgcol=FFFFFF linkcol=4285BB size=venti] 3. The Weight (The Band) Wilco, Nick…

Video | Larcenist – Faithful

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/55746738[/vimeo] [B]oston’s bearded boys beautiful new album, Eager City, Patient Country, will be released January 22, 2013 and the gents have just offered up the first video for the track “Faithful” to bring 2012 to a close and put their stamp on the new year. Larcenist’s lyrics weave together stories of small towns and changing times with expert harmonies and foot-stomping fiddle playing. The new video was filmed by Larcenist guitar/keys player Jonathan Schoeck and highlights the imagery in the band’s tale of being true to one’s soul. It looks like it was a ton of fun to film so…

2012 | Ryan D’s Top Albums of the Year

1. Jack White – Blunderbuss [M]y friends and family are probably not surprised by my pick for the number one album of the year, nor should they be. I do not hide my love for all things Jack White and his first solo album Blunderbuss has been playing pretty much nonstop in my house, and in my head, since it was released back in April. Setting off on his own, freed from the expectations of his previous work,  Jack recorded an all out rock n’ roll album that highlights everything great from his past while charting a new path…

Photos | Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band + Rosco Bandana @ Cafe 939

Photos by Boston Concert Photography [O]n Saturday night, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band nearly brought down the walls of Berklee’s Cafe 939. Touring behind their new album “Between the Ditches” (iTunes) and riding the joy of being featured on CMT and MTV, the dynamic trio packed the “Red Room” wall to wall with foot-stomping fans who cheered and hollered at their every facial expression and string slide. There’s no doubt the Reverend is an entertainer through and through and with a sound that’s just begging to be featured on a number of  A&E and History Channel shows, I’m gonna lay money down you’ll…
