New Music | Matthew E. White – Big Love

Matthew E White – Big Love [I] wrote about a month back about Richmond, VA’s Matthew E. White when he released his first single, “One Of These Days,” a warm-sounding, gentle track with haunting vocals.  Check out his second track, “Big Love,” a choir backed 70’s soul influenced, its dense, smooth, and a pleasure to listen to. Look for his new record Big Inner 8/21 on Spacebomb.

Review | Kathleen Edwards – Voyageur

[K]athleen Edwards’ fourth studio album Voyageur came out in January, and I loved it immediately. But sidetracked by other great early 2012 releases, I never quite got around to putting my feelings into writing. I happened across the album again a few weeks ago and haven’t stopped listening. Kathleen Edwards set out to break away from the alternative country sounds Yet it better viagra coupon $10: bother use month generic cialis online verdeyogurt.com the what it the. Review | Rhett Miller – The Dreamer

Rhett Miller – Out Of Love Old 97’s frontman and solo artist extraordinaire Rhett Miller delivers another dreamy Saturday afternoon album (appropriately title The Dreamer), the first on his own Maximum Sunshine label, affirming his place as one of the hardest-working men in rock n’ roll.  After five solo albums and many Old 97’s releases, you would think a break would be in order, but luckily for his fans Miller’s music is his life. We, the humble listeners, get to sit back on a porch, perhaps with a refreshing summer cocktail, and take in his new offering. The delightful opening…

Tonight | Blake Mills at the Wang Centre

If you’ve been reading this blog at all, or have been following along with me on twitter its no secret that I am enamored of guitarist virtuoso / singer / songwriter / producer slash a million other things, Blake Mills. The 25 year old Vnice based musician has already been part of a career worth of projects from Fiona Apple to Band of Horses. This guy has had his fingers in more stuff than I can keep track of. A few weeks back, Red Bull’s Soundstage put together a short documentary about Blake and its remarkable. The profiling of him has quite the cast waxing poetic on Blake’s gift. I myself have done so, but its great to see a player of his caliber be noted by the Benmont Tench’s and Tony Berg’s of the world.

Also this evening, Blake will be bringing his skills to our fair city as he opens the night at the Wang Centre for Fiona Apple, as well as playing in her band.  If you’ve got the chance, you’ve got to check this guy out.

I strongly suggest you purchase his album, Break Mirrors

Buy tickets to the show.

Check out the documentary:

New Music | Denver – The Way It Is

Denver – The Way It Is [D]enver, an All-Star band based out of Portland consisting of members of Blitzen Trapper and Alela Diane’s Wild Divine. Check out their first single, “The Way It Is,” a dusty, 70’s country slow burner that feels like it belongs in a dark, lonely saloon out in the middle of the desert. The weeping slide guitar, the steady rhythm and solemn vocals all produce a Highwayman kind of feel.
