Ryan Monroe – Any Way, Shape or Deformity

Ryan Monroe – Any Way, Shape Or Deformity Paste has recently posted a stream of Ryan Monroe’s new album A Painting of a Painting On Fire, which releases on June 12th; and if you haven’t been made acquaintance with Monroe’s music, he also has released two singles, one of which I posted a short while ago, and this new one “Any Way, Shape Or Deformity,” an ELO-like single that is delightful, a little silly, but altogether a really fun sound (which to me feels a little Dr. Dog-ish).  The record is shaping up to be quite an eclectic set of…

New Music | Bear Driver – Enemy

Sunny, slacker pop has a particular home in my heart, and I touched upon Bear Driver’s single “Big Love,” a few months back.  Fast forward to now, they are releasing another single “Enemy,”  a whimsical pop rock track that glistens and jangles with a coinciding video (below) and the announcement that their upcoming album will be available in a week.  You can grab a pre-order on their bandcamp, while you are checking out their track “Enemy.”

New Music | Blonds – Run

Blonds – Run The lovely duo Blonds is about to released their full length debut, The Bad Ones, on August 7th this year.  They are releasing this first single, “Run,”  a melodramatic track with huge, howling vocals from singer Cari Rae.  It’s expansive, raw and beautiful. The Floridian couple uprooted themselves to Brooklyn to record with Rare Book Room producer Nico Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, etc.).  Look for a summer tour announced soon.

New Music | Chocolate Robots – Young Luff

Chocolate Robots – Young Luff

This may be the perfect ray of sunshine that we here in Boston need after about 2 weeks of gray days and rain. Enter Chocolate Robots, a trio of brothers who call a pizza shop home. Their music is fun, irreverent, a little zany and whimsical. This is sunshine pop rock that brightens the day, and begs for some chair dancing. Check out the single above, or the spectacular video below and sing along.

Video | We Loyal – Arch of Glass

Last month, I shared We Loyal’s indie-pop / synth track “Arch of Glass,” and they have just recently released a video for the stand out track.  The video is visually striking and equally moody as is the track, all the shots seem to be taken within home aquarium, and there may or may not be some kind of attempted suicide. web | facebook | soundcloud

Mornin Old Sport – I Don’t Care If the Sun Don’t Shine

Mornin Old Sport – I Don’t Care If The Sun Don’t Shine

Check out bay area’s Mornin’ Old Sport’s cover of Mack David / Patti Page’s “I Don’t Care If the Sun Don’t Shine”, an old timey 50’s song that sounds as if it were recorded in a bedroom.  The scene of old-timey folk seems to be in revival and Mornin’ Old Sport is doing their part in bringing back the early 20th century with their vaudevillian sound that brings back the past into a bright sunny package that feels entirely authentic and genuine.

Look for  their new album in July titled, Misery Loves Co.

New Music | Manor – Afghan Hound

Manor – Afghan Hound A while back I posted about Australian duo Manor, and today the duo is back at it, releasing another single titled “Afghan Hound,” a moody electro pop track with a hypnotic beat and reverb drenched vocals. The follow-up to last year’s debut “Rhodesia,” “Afghan Hound,” was recorded in a Melbourne bedroom, mixed by Ned Cooke (Dappled Cities) with additional production by Lee Groves (Goldfrapp, Elbow) and mastered in Brooklyn by Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors.) Review | River City Extension – Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Your Anger

River City Extension – Welcome To Pittsburgh

Today, New Jersey’s River City Extension releases their second album, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Your Anger, a followup their fantastic record The Unmistakable Man. Leading up to this point, the band has released two of the tracks from the record, “There and Back Again,” and “Welcome to Pittsburgh,” two songs that are the prototype of sounds that come from this band.  The former being a coalescence of folk sensibilities and the blast of punk energy that the band can display which seems to represent the bands earlier sound while the latter being a more streamlined sound and arrangements that seem to have been battle tested over the last year or two during touring.  It’s a tighter sound, and one that seems to fit the band at well.  It may be a slight departure for fans, but rest assured, its a great sound for this band, and shows the band maturing quite a bit, with the help of Michelini’s songwriting which also seems to be upgrading itself.

New Music | Harry Oakwood – Scared Crow

There’s very little to be found out about Harry Oakwood (Millionaire), but in this debut track of their upcoming debut EP which is set for release on the July 18th, but it is easy to hear their influences on this track. It’s never easy to emulate heroes, but I can definitely hear The Band’s influence all over “Scared Crow,” the subtle horns connecting the two parts (hello Last Waltz), the ramshackle country tinged percussions, the group harmonies, its all in there. It’s a fun sound, and when the EP is released I think there will be a lot to like…
