You Ought to Know | Field Report

I am Not Waiting Anymore Fergus Falls One of the absolutely stunning memories from my recent SXSW trip was the two shows I got to see with the band Field Report. Field Report is Chris Porterfield, whose debut as Field Report made their world debut at SXSW. Originally Porterfield was with DeYarmond Edison (Bon Iver & Megafaun) and after the breakup went back to Wisconsin and began writing songs. In December 2011, his songs were recorded. What’s remarkable about the music is how carefully the songs seem to be crafted. They are tender and delicate, excellently written and slightly poignant.…

Video | Guns of Navarone – Winnipeg Manitoba

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/37707994[/vimeo] Check out the video for “Winnepeg Manitoba,” off Austin’s Guns of Navarone’s Prize and Battlefield, a record that I can honestly say I’ve probably listened to too many times.  I really enjoy Reinisch’s vocals and have probably sung along to these songs on more than one occasion. Guns of Navarone will also be hosting their 3rd annual Barn Fire Social at South By Southwest on Saturday the 17th @ The Aquarium – 403 East 6th Street. http://gonavarone.com/

US Royalty – Sleepy Eyes

US Royalty – Sleepy Eyes Really enjoying this new single from DC’s US Royalty. The bands harmonizing reminds me of the now-defunct Chief, and its a got a cool, sort of west coasty rock vibe ala Yukon Blonde. The track itself sort of rolls on with no friction, its really smooth and carefree feeling. The subtle percussions and guitar strumming is more background to vocals that at times soar. Its a super nice sounding track that will definitely be in constant rotation for a while, and whets my appetite for more. I’ve also been listening to their debut album Mirrors,…

Slam Donohue – No More Talking

NY-based band Slam Donahue has debuted a brand new track “No More Talking” off their upcoming Big House Nice Dreams Mixtape. The band is singer guitarist David Otto and bassist Thomas Sommerville and drummer Keenan Mitchell and they make toe-tapping melodies that feels extremely youthful and carefree. “No More Talking,” has an effortless melody, a lo-fi feel that is extremely catchy and at 2 minutes, begs to be played again and again.

Chains of Love – He’s Leaving With Me

Chains of Love – He’s Leaving With Me Vintage 60’s romantic pop music for whatever reason really strikes a chord with me. For such, I suggest checking out Chains of Love, a Vancouver group who seems to be entirely influenced by the Ronettes and the Shangri-la’s. A lo-fi approach and a 60’s girl-group sound that is infused with hazy energy and sun-soaked harmonies. Give their single, He’s Leaving With Me a spin. Next week they will be releasing their first EP, Strange Grey Days, a seven song affair with all the pop and fizz you can handle. Pre-Order: Strange Grey…
