New Music | Plants & Animals – Lightshow

Plants & Animals – Lightshow Plants and Animals’ new album, The End of That, hits next year in February, but we’re lucky to get to hear a new track off the Montreal trio’s album.  Lead single, “Lightshow,” deploys a more acoustic sound similar to that of their first album, but its where the acoustic meets electric is where “Lightshow” stands out.  Its slightly melancholic, and becomes bombastic as it crescendos into a solo and into gang harmonies that sound really great.  Seeing these guys live really opened my eyes to their music, and this sound will definitely translate in that…

New Music | Young Man – Then & Now (alt)

Young Man – Then-and-Now Young Man, the project of singer-songwriter and producer Colin Caulfield, is set to tour the southeast with Givers. Young Man is  releasing this alternate take to a track off their Ideas of Distance.  The seven minute track is an ambling atmospheric feeling song that builds and builds layering on deep guitar, keyboard and percussion layers, and relenting somewhere near the half mark.  It’s an impressive sound.  With another album in the works (May ’12) I look forward to hearing more from this budding band.

Video | Guards – I See It Coming

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/32687214[/vimeo] Couldn’t resist reposting something from Yours Truly, they are always killing it with some of the most gorgeous recordings visually, and sonically and this one doesn’t let them down. The Richie Follin headed band, Guards, who recorded a fantastic EP back in 2010 and gave it away for free, recorded this live session that is toothache sweet sounding, and visually beautiful. I can’t help but love this tune, it was by far my favorite on the record, and hearing it live like this totally amps the intensity of the sound scale. I’m keeping an eye on this band as…

New Music | Andrew Combs – Dark End of the Street

Andrew Combs – Dark End of the Street I love music discovery, though I’m not a huge fan of the Pandoras of the world, music discovery through word of mouth is extremely powerful for me. I love getting recommendations from friends, musicians, readers (that’s you) and while I was having a conversation with Jonny Corndawg last week, he told me about a Nashvillian (would it be better if it were Nashvillain?) by the name of Andrew Combs. Andrew’s music jumped out at me from the get go. Loading up his EP on bandcamp, I was delighted to hear the sounds…

New Music | Sharon Van Etten – Serpents

Sharon Van Etten – Serpents Sometime in early 2012 we’ll be delighted with a new record from Brooklyn songstress, Sharon Van Etten. Our first experience with the music from the record comes in the newly released track “Serpents.” Serpents is a downtempo visceral track that takes what Sharon has done in the past and really tightens up in every direction. Its a gorgeous sounding track that is really whetting the appetite for Tramps, whenever it comes out.

New Music | Saint Motel – At Least I Have Nothing

Saint Motel – At Least I Have Nothing I’ve been loving this single from Saint Motel, but have had trouble putting words together. So bear with me here as I try to elucidate my enjoyment. Saint Motel has released this 7″ with this fantastic single titled “At Least I Have Nothing,” a synthy, pop / rock track that feels like its three dimensional. Synth rhythms relent to explosive guitars, heavy percussions, and extremely catchy almost gang chorus’. It’s damn fun for sure, and feels like it belongs partly in Tron. The core of the song seems to be dealing with…

New Music | Yellow Ostrich – ‘Til I Disappear

Yellow Ostrich – ‘Til I Disappear Check out this unreleased track now surfacing.  “Til I Disapppear,” surfaced as a bonus track today. This comes after Yellow Ostrich re-released the Mistress on Barsuk earlier this year. What’s great about this track is it totally belongs on the Mistress. It’s a fantastic, slightly morose downtempo track that really kicks things up around the two minute mark, unleashing pounding harmonies, and a distortion heavy guitar solo. Exciting stuff, and you can get the track for the cost of an email address below:

New Music | Electric Flower – Circles

Electric Flower – Circles In 2006,Josh Garza and Imaad Wasif met while trapped in an elevator in London’s BBC Studios. Regardless of how unbelievable that actually is, the two met three years later again and laid down this epic six minute rock track “Circles.” As of November 8th Electric Flower released their self-titled debut. When I say 6 minute epic, I truly do mean it. In particular the frenzied percussion on this track feels really good, and is well complimented by the hazy guitars. Grab Electric Flower EP
