Video | Pyyramids – That Ain’t Right

Following the Halloween release of their debut EP, Human Beings, LA-based duo PYYRAMIDS have shared their first music video. The Subterranean Homesick Blues-like video with literal lyrics with a bit of a twist as they’ve incorporated the psychedelic visual style. The lofi sound and reverby vocals give this track a dark sound thats a bit twisted, and perfect for the Halloween release they used. Stream the EP Buy Human Beings – EP

Video | Telekinesis – Country Lane

Telekinesis just released the video for their track “Country Lane” off their 2011 album 12 Desperate Straight Lines.  Its not a secret that I’m a huge fan of Michael and his band (who doesn’t love a drummer that sings).  The album was released back in early 2011 and its nice to get a reminder of how much I enjoyed this and many of their other songs from this album.  It was on a constant loop for a good month and for good reason.  It was one of the funnest power-pop delights I heard, and I definitely have great memories of…

New Music | Devon Sproule – Now’s the Time

Devon Sproule – Now’s the Time

Canadian born, Devon Sproule is about to release her new full-length titled, I Love You, Go Easy, tomorrow. Her free-spirited, easy going music feels a bit Young-ian as it ambles along with twangy goodness. And lucky for us, she’ll be touring through our fair city in a few weeks (11/23 @ Passim). Her folky roots, and intermixed pop elements permeate through her music and help create her care free sound.

Video | Michael Kiwanuka – I’m Getting Ready

I posted Michael’s fantastic single “I’m Getting Ready,” a few weeks back, and I couldn’t help but post the video for the song.  Its becoming one of my favorite songs of the year. His voice reminiscent of Otis Redding & Bill Withers, his music a little Dylan, and a little Nick Drake this song just can’t get out of my head. If you are lucky enough to be in NY or LA you’ll be able to check him out live next month: December 6 – Los Angeles @ Hotel Café December 8 – New York City @ Joe’s Pub…

Video | Leisure – Green Light

Check out Boston band Leisure and their video for shimmering single “Green Light.”  Its one of those songs that seems to slow time down.  Its densely layered hypnotic feel goes along great with the “double-vision” look to the video.  Its a heavy to swallow sound that proves to have quite a hook, and matures with each listen. This song is featured on a new 7″ the band is putting out on Crash Symbols

Tonight | Hayes Carll with Caitlin Rose at The Paradise

Caitlin Rose – Shanghai Cigarettes Tonight opening for Hayes Carll is Nashville TN’s Caitlin Rose. She’s an up and coming alt country / folk songstress who is still extremely young (24) and just released her debut full-length in March. Her songs are naive, vulnerable and honest. She writes in a near pure confessional style that can be heart-wrenching and quite humorous and satirical. Her music is steeped in country style but that isn’t where it ends. I hear a lot of inspiration from girl pop of the 50s and 60s (see She & Him) to luminaries like Patsy Cline or…

New Music | Breathe Owl Breathe – The Listeners

Breathe Owl Breathe – The Listeners

A playful vibe, and a child jump in on Breathe Owl Breathe’s new one, “The Listeners.”  Its this playful curiosity to their music that drew me in on this one.  This one actually feels like it could be a Noah and the Whale track.   Whats really interesting is the 7 inch this comes from goes along with a brand new childrens book  titled “The Listeners / These Train Tracks” due out this December.  The storytelling nature of the music goes along quite well and is a great concept.

This track release anticipates their extensive tour of Michigan (yeah just Michigan) so those mitten staters will have quite a week or two from this exciting band.  Joining the band for all dates will be label-mate and fellow artist/musician/surfer/skater Little Wings (Kyle Field).

New Music | Three Metre Day – I’m Like an Oak

Three Metre Day – I’m Like an Oak

Check out modern roots trio Three Metre Day’s new cut “I’m Like an Oak,” from their new album Coasting Notes. The gentle nature of Michelle Willis’ voice and the combination of the subtle jazz, folk elements create an intimate and warm texture that is both wonderful to relax to, but has a slow jumpy vibe that keeps your spirits in the clouds. Its a unique sound that transcends many styles.

New Music | Crystal Stilts – Dark Eyes

Crystal Stilts – Dark Eyes

Check out the handclap laced Dark Eyes, a track from indie Rockers Crystal Stilts. They are about to release a new EP, Radiant Door, on Sacred Bones records. Its an interesting sound, the vocals feel extremely far away, and the reverb drenched sound bounces off what sounds like a huge room. Its a little psychedelic, fuzzy, and very retro.
