Santah – Chips Of Paint A close friend of mine was studying abroad in Spain a few semesters back and spent more than a few evenings at a local open mic night. Also frequenting the open mic night, but up on stage, was Stanton McConnell, a student at the University of Illinois. Fast forward a few months. McConnell’s band has released their debut record. Mount Moriah – Lament For Chapel Hill, North Carolina natives Heather McEntire and Jenks Miller, combining a post-punk background with a heavy-psych/metal one did not in fact yield a third band of equally hardcore sounds. The combination instead led to Mount Moriah and an excellent full-length debut that offers a new take on classic American folk music. The nine-track album has just about every americana/folk sound covered. Lament, the first single, is the album’s foot-stomping track. And there’s gospel-influenced sounds in more than a few of the songs. Lead singer Heather McEntire’s soft but sharp voice anchors every track and…
1 CommentKristian Matsson (TMOE) released a new unreleased single to Adult Swim for their singles series. The track is “Weather of a Killing Kind” is as usual a beautifully plucked acoustic track with Matsson’s extremely powerful and emotive voice accompanying. Its amazing how much this guy can do with such a simple song. Now if we could just get a new album.
Leave a CommentOther Lives – Tamer Animals Other Lives latest album Tamer Animals is lush and haunting and epic. The four guys and one lady from Stillwater, Oklahoma have created an album, where layer after layer of sound beautifully transports you elsewhere. Whether a dense forest or a far away space scape (as seen in their music video for For 12) this entire album is simply otherworldly. There are numerous layers that weave in and out of each song. Trumpets and horns on Dark Horse add an urgency to the song, and the hmmm-ing and oooohhhh-ing found in the album’s title track…
2 CommentsBlitzen Trapper – American Goldwing
Blitzen Trapper has always remained to be one of my favorite bands around so their announcement of forthcoming album American Goldwing definitely does not go unnoticed. Today they released the title track, a dusty, country tinged jam, that reminds me of earlier works (specifically Wild Mountain Nation). Earley’s writing and voice have always been very strong, and on this one it rings true once again.
Its a traveler, rolling midtempo number that is sure to please fans.
In the meantime, here again are the confirmed tour dates as of now, and the most useful Blitzen Trapper links for up to date information on the band are all listed below!

Ganglians – Jungle
Off their upcoming album Still Living, Ganglians release their second song “Sleep.” Sleep is a psychedelic foray that sounds to me a bit of Suckers and a bit Dirty Projectors (the album is produced by Robbie Moncrieff who produced Bitte Orca) its a different kind of beautiful track that is hazy and ambient like any other psychedelic track, but has some pounding drums and a very melodic keyboard riff. Its a long track at 5:35 but well worth numerous listens all the way through.
Still Living hits shelves 8/23.
