If you’ve never heard of Callers, their sound is familiar, yet distinct. Sara Lucas plays guitar, but her main instrument is her voice, which weaves through each song as the tempo and rhythm rises and falls around it. The trio – vocalist Lucas, guitarist Ryan Seaton and drummer Don Godwin – first met in New Orleans, and their sound includes blues, folk and jazz influences. In fact, it’s the otherworldliness of…

Beg Scream & Shout is a pet project of my friend, Duncan Arsenault, a talented drummer and a huge roster of very talented players who create an authentic soul experience featuring classic 60’s Motown sounds. Leave a CommentCircuital Jim (I refuse to call him Yim) James and the bunch are just about to release a brand new album titled ‘Circuital.’ The album track was released for download today and it is per usual, reverb-soaked sound with a Jim’s angelic voice over warm and crunchy guitars, and jangly keys. Registering at 7 minutes, its quite the rambling song. Pre-Order Circuital
Leave a CommentHoly Holy Civilian words by: Courtney Leigh Allen It seems that as of late, everyone has been talking about the boy-girl duo Wye Oak. The Baltimore pair will play at the Middle East Upstairs Tuesday April 13 with Callers and Jaggery opening. Wye Oak released their third full-length album Civilian in early March and came out of SXSW with a swarm of praise, from new and old fans alike. Their sound, which consists of Jenn Wasner on guitar and vocals and Andy Stack on drums and keyboard, is full of floating vocals, volume explosions and thumping bass lines and is…
Leave a CommentJeremy Lee Given – Arapaima Funny how things happen but last week I had been on an interview with Local Music 101 (podcast) and we were talking about local acts that I was excited about. One of which I spoke of is Jeremy Lee Given, who is also a member of Boston band Rodeo Church. Months ago Given had afforded me the opportunity to hear his fantastic solo album Old Flames; and soon after this conversation I had with Local Music 101, Jeremy came out of nowhere to give me his newest single, one that I’m probably going to listen…

Leave a CommentHorses Finally got around to posting this song, its a dreamy little folk pop song from New York (by way of Australia) band High Highs. It provides a steady heartbeat-like rhythm with tenderly strummed acoustics and dream-like vocals. Its a soaring thru heaven kind of sound. Find more at their bandcamp.
