Turtle and the Flightless Bird Iron Woman Deserted Eyeland Back in 2005, Devin Davis, a Chicago based American indie musician released this great album Lonely People of the World Unite that it seems no one knew about. It’s a real shame for Devin Davis that this album wasn’t more successful. Had he received more exposure, this album would have been a real break out for him. But for the select few that stumble upon this record, by word-of-mouth or just plain luck, it’s a treat. I personally had not received the album until a few months ago, it quickly made its…

Run Chicken Run (Yonder is the Clock) Penn Station (Yonder is the Clock) Frankies Gun! (The Felice Brothers) I had bought the Felice Brothers’ self titled album and was absolutely floored by their ability to recapture a turn of the century feel with their music. It seems as though their style mixes many music styles; delta blues, folk and americana. Their self titled album really got a lot of play out of me and then in 2009 they came out with a brand new album, I was straight to the store to purchase Yonder is the Clock. After one or…
‘The Happy Loss’ by sonofthesunmusic As suggested from Ryan of rslblog.com I sat down to check out Son of the Sun and found a full streaming version of their brand new album The Happy Loss. This album has the potential to make Son of the Sun a break out band. This one is definitely worth a listen. Son of the Sun plays PA’s Lounge tonight in Somerville, MA
Pop Synth band The Pass, out of Kentucky, are setting up a release to their upcoming album Burst with this video. Premiered on Pretty Much Amazing the song ‘Treatment of the Sun’ kind of sounds like Empire of the Sun. It’s highly catchy, danceable, and the video is a lot of fun. That Feeling If you haven’t heard of Dent May, I wouldn’t blame you. He’s a musician from Mississippi who was popularized by his use of ukelele. It seems as though he’s put it down and made a summer synth heatwave cooling kind of song. It’s got the right vibe for a warm summer night, and is extremely catchy. The track comes from his upcoming release, and is free to download. http://dentmay.com/
Recorded live in studio in Muscle Shoals, AL during the making of their newest album, Brothers. The Black Keys continue to be one of the coolest rock bands around today. The eery nature of this song, the howling and airy sounds and Auerbach’s voice bring this song into a deep dark corner of your mind.
Fang Island, aptly named, and totally fun have become one of my go to workout ‘pump you up’ bands. Their self titled album is full of exploding jams that make you want to get up and move. Check out their video for Careful Crossers.
