The Dodos – Black Night

San Francisco rock outfit the Dodos are preparing to release a new album, No Color, come March 15th via Frenchkiss. In preparation they release ‘Black Night,’ their first single from the album.

First thing you’ll notice is the heartbeat like pounding drums, the intricate guitar, and a driving, hard charging force in the song that amps itself up throughout the song, its vigorous and energetic. The album, out next month features multiple songs with Neko Case (not on Black Night) .

New Album / Single | O’Death – Bugs

O’Death just announced they’d be releasing a new album in April. The album, entitled ‘Outside,’ will be released by Ernest Jenning Records on April 19th. The lead single, Bugs, starts off a fragile quietly strummed folk track, and quickly explodes and retracts again and again. This kind of tempo change is what makes O’Death so much fun to see, they evoke a certain free flowing ability to create a dramatic tension, and ultimately release it in their songs. This style made them stand out during a fantastic show at this past Newport Folk Festival.

O’Death will be touring extensively leading up to the record’s release on April 19th. See below for dates.

MISRA Relaunches, releases Compilation

Southeast Engine – New Growth Misra records plans to relaunch as an artist run label and to highlight Misra’s new position as an artist-run entity, 2011’s first release will be Southeast Engine’s Canary – due out March 29. Lucky for us, a track off Southeast Engine’s album resides on the compilation Misra is offering up for free. The song, New Growth, will appear on the upcoming album, as well as Misra Records’ Legacy Compilation, Volume 1.
