New Music | Akron/Family – Until the Morning

[T]he second single off of Akron/Family’s upcoming Sub Verses, “Until the Morning,” is a shimmering psych-folk track that seems to be pushing the band in a more lyrically focused direction. “Until the Morning,” is an emotionally driven, moody track that feels like it’s full of grief. The weight of the song feels like a heavy thick cloud just waiting to burst open and drench you. Look for the guys to be touring quite heavily over the spring and summer on the weight of this new material.

Silly Bears
So It Goes

Long strange album title aside, Akron / Family’s newest album is one of those albums that isn’t entirely definable.  The music is experimental in nature, they use audio samples, psych-rock explosions, tribal beats (see silly bears), syncopated guitar and vocals… to put it simply, the album is as wild as the title.  That’s not to say that its not likeable, enjoyable, or listenable.  It’s just one of the most experimental sound albums you’ll hear this year.  Recorded in an abandoned train station, Akron / Family sourced influences from Japanese Noise Cassettes to Cagean Field Recordings (yea I looked it up too) S/T II is actually a lot of fun to listen to.  What’s great is every song has it’s own identity, completely separate from each of its album-mates.  Each song can be listened to in a vacuum and listened to on it’s own.

Akron/Family – Silly Bears

Silly Bears

Akron/Family have got a new LP to be released next month (Feb 8th) from Dead Oceans records.  The album’s title, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, a wordy one, but they will tour it relentlessly over the next 3 months.

This second single, Silly Bears, is a hazy and chaotic journey to say the least.  The fuzz on this song is palpable, the lyrics simple, but for one reason or another its entirely listenable.  The simplistic vocal harmonies are in direct response to the wildly complex music going on beneath.  This is well worth a few listens and a direct line to tickle the bug for their upcoming album.

Akron/Family Album Details and New Single

So It Goes Akron/Family have got a new LP to be released next month (Feb 8th) from Dead Oceans records.  The album’s title, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, a wordy one, but they will tour it relentlessly over the next 3 months. The lead single, So It Goes, is a bluesy track that basically sounds like dirty Black Keys guitar riff sample.  Its rough on the edges but contains these airy vocals, and lightly sprinkled harmonizing in the background gives this track a nice contrast.  The song has this nice hectic feel to it, it really brings out…
