Photos + Review | Smooth Hound Smith + Kyshona @ Atwood’s

On September 26th Smooth Hound Smith and their incredible band brought the tour for the excellent new album, Dog in a Manger, to Atwood’s Tavern in Cambridge and as this record is one of the Music Savage gang’s favorites, we simply had to head out for a Thursday night show to hear the new songs come to life in this intimate venue. We have been fans of the Nashville duo since their 2013 self-titled debut album and it was a joy to see them live. The audience on this stop saw a charming, talented couple take over the stage in…

Photos | Colter Wall + The Local Honeys @ Atwood’s

You know those shows you put on your calendar six months before they actually happen? Sunday night at Atwood’s was one of those for me. Colter Wall book-ended this past weekend at Atwood’s Tavern with his Speedy Creek Band and the ever-charming Local Honeys. If you weren’t able to catch either one of the shows (or the matinee set by the Honeys on Sunday,) it’s likely safe to say you planned poorly. Don’t let it happen again. In case you’re unfamiliar, Colter Wall is the 22-year old Canadian country/folk artist who—in a very short time—has drawn (deserved) comparisons to the…

Photos: Daniel Romano @ Atwood’s Tavern

It doesn’t happen often, but let it be known from here on out that if Canadian artist Daniel Romano is rocking his way through our fair city we should make a concerted effort to get our asses out to the show. Having long been recognized for not only his musical talent, but also his visual art and leatherwork, Romano is currently on a creative tear that will leave a wake of sweaty appreciation after each show. Despite suffocating temperatures, Romano and his band (including surprise opener Caitlin Rose) commanded the stage from minute one. Rocking their way through songs new…

A few weeks back Christopher Paul Stelling kicked off the tour for his incredible new album, Itinerant Arias, at Atwood’s Tavern in Cambridge and the Music Savage gang joined a sold out crowd to hear the new songs come to life in one of our favorite local venues. Our readers know how much we appreciate the passion Stelling and his amazing band put into each performance and we implore you to check the tour dates and get yourself to an upcoming show. Fair warning however, once you have attended you will find yourself comparing a Christopher Paul Stelling concert to all…

Photos + Review | Aaron Lee Tasjan + Brian Wright @ Atwood’s

Cafe Rooster Sessions Vol 1 by Brian Wright Our friends at Atwood’s always seem to book amazing shows, we’ve caught so many great acts within those 4 walls, and last Tuesday night was another point of proof that awesome things are happening there. When I walked through the doors, the band was just fixing to get started on a few hours of great americana. Getting a taste of ALT with a band transformed his songs thanks to the rhythm section of bassist Keith Christopher and drummer Chris Marine. As a combined act, Aaron Lee Tasjan and Brian Wright delivered on…

Photos | Christopher Paul Stelling + Dan Blakeslee @ Atwood’s Tavern

October 7th was a special night for the Music Savage gang. Two of our favorite troubadours shared the bill at one of our favorite stomping grounds in the Greater Boston area. Brooklyn’s Christopher Paul Stelling and Massachusetts native Dan Blakeslee brought all the Newport Folk energy they both collected this year playing the festival to the sold out crowd at the intimate Cambridge venue Atwood’s Tavern, and it was a glorious night of boot stomping fun. To say that you missed out if you did not attend is an understatement as both musicians delivered heartfelt performances worthy of a larger…

Photos + Review | Andrew Combs @ Atwood’s Tavern

Photos by Boston Concert Photography On Tuesday, June 16th the music loving folks of the greater Boston area who gathered at the fantastic Atwood’s Tavern were treated to a night of genuine country charm and twang from Tennessee troubadour Andrew Combs and his terrific band. The Texas-born singer-songwriter currently calls Nashville home and his love of his adopted city was clear on stage that night, as each song made everyone in attendance feel like true southerners for a spell. With two stellar albums, an EP, and a number of singles to select from, the setlist hit all the right notes.…
