Best Records of 2012 | 35 – 31

35. The Walkmen – Heaven – The Walkmen have consistently dropped a fine record every two years, in 2010 it was Lisbon, and in 2012 it is Heaven. Their sound on Heaven has grown up as the messy rockers too have grown up into men, they’ve reinvented their sound rounded the edges a bit, and made great music. “Dad rock,” might be the term some are using to describe this record, but ultimately this record just weighs heavier on the responsibility of getting older, its a great concept for anyone who’s been listening to this band for the last 12…

This Weekend | Shows to See!

Ben Kweller – Mean to Me Me heading out of town tonight seems to be a total buzzkill.  It seems as though all of Boston is going to be lit up with great shows this weekend. New Music | Bowerbirds – Tuck the Darkness In

Bowerbirds – Tuck the Darkness In

This sweet morsel of news really perked up my day. A new track from North Carolina’s Bowerbirds, and a date for their next album. The lead single “Tuck the Darkness In” is here today off their upcoming record (The Clearing … out March ’12) and it is quite awesome.  The gentle nature of this song and soft warm melodies pour out over lightly strummed guitars and tender key arrangements.  The song comes to life and relents to a full on electric auditory modality that feels so good and earnest as they exclaim, “We Tuck the Darkness In.”
