Frank Turner brought the house down at MGM Music Hall at Fenway on May 7 and we were there to catch the magic. Frank has an incredibly strong fanbase in Boston. The people that attend his shows every time have formed a community within these shows. The night was complete with the support of the lovely Chuck Ragan as well as the joyous and energetic Interrupters. It’s amazing to see the power in Frank’s music– whether it be his dynamic lyrics, punching choruses, or his and the Sleeping Souls’ live performance. Photos + Review | Orville Peck @ ONCE Ballroom

The mysterious, masked country singer held the audience at ONCE Ballroom in the palm of his hand, enrapturing them with his unmatched crooner’s voice. Orville Peck is a musician that takes the entity of the classic, baritone cowboy song and makes it his own. Orville Peck and his band truly mesmerized the crowd with songs off of his 2019 album Pony released in March. The album recounts heartbreak and a life of roaming under the all encompassing theme of a forlorn cowboy. Though sad at times, the songs are generally uplifting and empowering, with that twinge of something tender, and…

Photos + Review | Summer Cannibals + Field Mouse + Lost Dog @ Once Somerville

Summer Cannibals brought their fantastic riffs to Once Somerville on August 16th. Massachusetts band Lost Dog opened up the show, followed by Field Mouse, who had released their new album “Meaning” that day. The band described their songs as being “mostly about the world ending… because it is,” which prompted a reply of “thank god” from somewhere in the crowd, answered in a validating laugh throughout the room. The show was filled with energy and humor from all three bands. Shred masters Summer Cannibals kept the crowd enthralled with constant hair flips and amazing tunes. Their set was lively and…

Photos + Review | The Menzingers + Queen of Jeans + The Sidekicks @ The Palladium Upstairs

The Menzingers played to a very sweaty, sold-out crowd in Worcester at The Palladium Upstairs. The Philly-born band have had a strong community of Massachusetts devotees for years, after playing a myriad of venues across the state, ranging from this same room at the Palladium to the House of Blues. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more impassioned crowd than a Menzingers crowd. The entire room sings every word to every song, from any era of the band’s discography. Even their newest song “Anna”, released not two weeks prior, was well-known and loved by the crowd. “Anna” is the first…

Photos + Review | The Distillers + Starcrawler @ Royale

The Distillers tore down The Royale on a rainy Tuesday night in Boston on May 29th. Starcrawler opened the show with an undeniably explosive energy. Lead singer Arrow de Wilde tears herself apart on stage, quite literally tearing her outfit off, which appears to be covered in blood, to match her face, also streaked with blood. She spends about half the set throwing herself on the ground, openly weeping into the microphone. The performance included swinging instruments, crowdsurfing, and even sending a guitar into the audience for dozens to grab and claw at. Starcrawler made sure to play their cover…
