New Music | Brown Bird – Bannermen

photo credit Boston Concert Photography It’s hard to believe that this weekend marks the 1 year anniversary of the loss of the presence that was David Lamb. On April 5th, 2014 the music world became a little less bright as we said goodbye to a beloved musician who was a force to be reckoned with, both on stage and in his battle with leukemia. One thing about being in Lamb’s profession is that although he is no longer with us physically, his spirit will forever live on in the beautiful music he created with his partner in Brown Bird and…

David Lamb

photo credit Boston Concert Photography [W]e here at Music Savage mourn the loss of Brown Bird singer-songwriter David Lamb, who passed away on Saturday after a brave battle with leukemia. He was diagnosed with the illness last May and thanks to a massive fundraising effort started by fellow Brown Bird musician (and Lamb’s wife) MorganEve Swain through the website YouCaring, he was able to receive the medication and care needed to put up a good, hard fight. Last December Brown Bird released a beautiful track about that fight titled “Weathering,” which was written after a round of chemotherapy and recorded…

New Music | Brown Bird – Weathering

[T]here are moments when we are all truly tested during this crazy thing we call life, and it is in those exact moments when a person can truly find meaning and hope. Earlier this year Brown Bird’s David Lamb was diagnosed with leukemia and had to go through a dizzying array of blood tests and biopsies before undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant in September. With the extraordinary help from bandmate MorganEve Swain, and the hundreds and hundreds of fans who donated to Lamb’s YouCaring page to help with the medical bills, the musician is now able to slowly heal by…

Review | Brown Bird – Salt for Salt

Brown Bird – Thunder and Lightning Brown Bird – Bilgewater When I got my first crack at hearing Brown Bird I was totally floored.  Amazed at how much great sound duo David Lamb & Morganeve Swain produce together.  Their influences are varied but reside mostly in roots rock, early American Folk, Gypsy music.  Salt for Salt is the perfect example of this blend.  Its a total joy to listen to. Its this dark side of folk that they mainly explore.Brown Bird has a tendency towards the dark side. Pulling from their influences Brown Bird uses haunting lyrics, varied rhythms and…

New Music | Brown Bird – Thunder & Lightning

Brown Bird – Thunder and Lightning

Providence, RI duo Brown Bird recently announced the the release of their newest full length album, Salt for Salt, being released October 18th, 2011 on Supply & Demand Music.  Their sunday early show at Newport Folk Festival this year opened a lot of ears to one absolutely fantastic, dark, moody folk band that is going to make some waves with their upcoming album.  Brown Bird released their second single from the album “Thunder and Lightning,” which was premiered via Paste Magazine. I got my first taste of this very talented duo at the Newport Folk Fest lineup announcement, they played live, and I was totally blown away, instantly became a fan.  They’ve got a dark, circus vibe, the deviant side of folk music, thats playful, sly, and mischievous.  A definite must listen check out Thunder and Lightning, grab a preorder Salt for Salt, and catch a show (dates below).

New Music | Brown Bird – Fingers to the Bone

Brown Bird – Fingers to the Bone New tunes from Brown Bird, the Rhode Island based band had been working on a new album, and it’s right around the corner.  Salt for Salt will release this October, and it’s first single is available today.  Fingers to the Bone, available today is their brand new single, and well its pretty awesome.  Fingers to the Bone has this clanky, early americana sound, the dusty sound of stand up bass, the clack of tambourines, and the southern tinge of banjo all create a scene of old american folk music, with a little bit…

New Music | Brown Bird – Bilgewater

Bilgewater Last night while I was at the Newport Folk Fest lineup party the entertainment for the party was this band I hadn’t heard anything about. Not sure how I missed it, but these guys were totally amazing. Brown Bird, is a rootsy American folk band that seems to frequent the dark side of those influences. The music can be haunting, it can have foot stomping rhythm, and its always quite beautiful.  For just a two piece, the music is remarkably full sounding (thanks to David Lamb’s one-man band ability … and his amazing beard). The Rhode Island based band…
