If I Had a Boat Wednesday night saw the supremely talented James Vincent McMorrow come to town and open up for Bell X1.  The quiet nature of his beautiful voice was unfortunately outweighed by some really loud conversations within the crowd.  Unfortunate for the fans in the crowd trying to hear McMorrow’s crooning falsettos, and soothing ‘oooohs’ but still he delighted those of us respectful enough to keep quiet.  It was specifically wonderful when his voice drowned out everyone during his powerful rendition of ‘If I Had a Boat.’  The pairing of him and Bell X1 is not exactly a…

Video | James Vincent McMorrow – Sparrow & the Wolf

James Vincent McMorrow’s fantastic album Early In the Morning has a litany of great songs on it. One of which ‘Sparrow & the Wolf’ just got a video treatment. McMorrow’s vocal instrument is the most distinct and special part of ‘Early in the Morning.’ He’s well worth listening to multiple times, and you can definitely find yourself lost in his album. Cover | James Vincent McMorrow – Whip My Hair

Whip My Hair – Today FM Ray D’Arcy A few weeks ago, James Vincent McMorrow did a cover of Willow Smith’s Whip My Hair on Today FM with Ray D’Arcy. This is actually fantastic it might be a cover of the ‘Neil Young & Bruce Springsteen’ cover from Fallon.  It’s actually pretty awesome. Comedy aside, I assure you if you haven’t heard James Vincent McMorrow’s recently released album, Early in the Morning … I’ve reviewed it here.  I can assure you, its one of my favorite albums of 2011 and well worth the price they are asking for it ($5.99).…

Review | James Vincent McMorrow – Early in the Morning

If I Had a Boat I had the chance to listen to Dublin’s James Vincent McMorrow’s US debut album Early in the Morning for over a month now and have struggled admirably to put into words why I like it so damn much. One thing that comes to mind is Theodore Roosevelt’s slogan, ‘Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick.’ McMorrow’s soft crooning falsetto vocals speaks softly, but these songs can be hugely powerful.  Case in point, the single ‘If I Had a Boat,’ the song toils in the allegory of being lost at sea until found (finding love) the…

Video | James Vincent McMorrow – This Old Dark Machine

James Vincent McMorrow – This Old Dark Machine from Vagrant Records on Vimeo James Vincent McMorrow’s This Old Dark Machine from his album Early in the Morning, finally got a video treatment.  This album has been picking up steam, and it seems as though the more times you listen to it, the better it is.  His voice is super emotive and the music goes so well with it.  This is one album that is so well done, its hard to really put it into words Buy on Early in the Morning iTunes

James Vincent McMorrow – If I Had a Boat

If I Had a Boat Check out Dublin’s James Vincent McMorrow a vocal talent that’s got to be heard.  First track to be released off his upcoming (January 25) debut LP entitled, Early in the Morning, is a beautiful sounding song.  The haunting allegory of a man at sea lost in or out of love is one that’s never out of style.  The pure emotionality of his voice and the power of it during the bridge and chorus is really fantastic. Look forward to his upcoming LP later this month. http://www.jamesvmcmorrow.com/
