Review | Lady Lamb the Beekeeper – Ripely Pine

[M]aine native Aly Spaltro’s latest release as her alter-ego Lady Lamb the Beekeeper is titled Ripely Pine (out on Ba Da Bing Records) and it is a knock-out album from start to finish. Encompassing the energy of her live shows into a recorded offering might have been a daunting task, but it seems to have been handled deftly. You would expect this if you’ve been following Spaltro’s rise from the Portland, ME music scene in 2007, to being awarded Folk Artist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards in 2010. Ripely Pine starts off with “Hair to the Ferris Wheel” as Spaltro…

New Music | Lady Lamb the Beekeeper – Bird Balloons

[A]ly Spaltro, the creative and driving force behind Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, is releasing her debut album, Ripely Pine, next month, and is following up with another single “Bird Balloons,” a gritty, rock jam that spits out narrative lyrics with a totally unhinged style that seems to build and build and build to near explosion. It’s near tempestuous music, a almost schizophrenic feel that keeps the listener on their toes, and what can I say I love it. Look for Ripely Pine next month on Ba Da Bing.

New Music | Lady Lamb the Beekeeper – Rooftop

[N]ew tune from Lady Lamb the Beekeper is very exciting. “Rooftop,” will appear on upcoming record Ripely Pine,  an album conceived when Spaltro was working at Bart’s & Greg’s DVD Explosion in Brunswick, ME.  “Rooftop,” makes me think a bit of a more aggressive Rilo Kiley, a band that is near and dear to my heart.  The rampant energy, and loose structures really strike a chord with me, and I’m loving this track. Lady Lamb the Beekeeper’s debut album, Ripely Pine, is out February 19th on Ba Da Bing! Records. Upcoming Shows: Tue. Nov. 13 – New York, NY @ Le…

Sharon Van Etten, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper and St. Claire at Brighton Music Hall

Sharon Van Etten – Don’t Do It Lady Lamb the Beekeeper – Penny Licks words & photos by: Courtney Leigh Allen There was a whole lot of beautiful song writing and mesmerizing voices at the Sharon Van Etten show at Brighton Music Hall Thursday night. The show was sold out, which isn’t surprising given that Sharon Van Etten has friends in high places. Or indie places. She’s toured with The National and Junip, sang on The Antler’s latest album Hospice, and is pals with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. And she specializes in heartbreak. And is overall, adorable. She seemed genuinely happy and…
