New Music | Brandon Mastrangelo – Displaced

After a ten year stint in Boston/Cambridge playing music with his best friends in the band Larcenist, Brandon Mastrangelo now calls Syracuse, NY home. He’s focused his time towards raising his family and his career while stealing away the early hours of his mornings working on songwriting. As anyone who has a young family knows it’s hard to find the time when you can explore your own passions especially if it’s not your livelihood. Brandon recounts his efforts, The struggle to make time is real. Continuing to make music amidst the daily priorities of family and work has been no…

Tonight | Larcenist w/ Kelly McFarling & The Home Team, Cactus Attack @ Great Scott

[L]ocal boys (and Music Savage favorites) Larcenist kick off a great show at one of Boston’s great venues Great Scott. Their latest release, Eager City, Patient Country, is an album which translates beautifully live, and in the intimate setting of Great Scott you will easily be swept up in the band’s showmanship and storytelling in songs of unbridled hope, mixed with a just twinge of despair. Our bearded brothers play their hearts out each and every show and you should most definitely head out early tonight to help them start up the fun. [S]an Francisco based banjo-wiz Kelly McFarling called Boston home…

Review | Larcenist – Eager City, Patient Country

photo credit to David Wright Photography http://www.davidwrightphoto.com/ [T]he moment you press play on the new full-length Larcenist album Eager City, Patient Country a welcoming feeling sets in and takes hold. It’s the familiar sound of everyday life, and the stories of regular folks like you and I making our way in the world, set to beautifully arranged instruments and reassuring voices. All twelve songs evoke a time gone by but in way that feels contemporary, after all the search for salvation is a timeless anecdote. In the Spring of 2011 the band released their debut EP, We Become The Hunted,…

Stream | Larcenist – Eager City, Patient Country

photo credit to David Wright Photography http://www.davidwrightphoto.com/ [I]’m so absolutely pleased to have the honor to put this up finally, I know how much effort and hard work the boys of Larcenist have gone through to finally get this record right where they wanted to. I’d say their patience has paid off, Eager City, Patient City is a wonderful wonderful record. It laces beautiful sounding folk music full of gang harmonies, sweeping stringed instruments, and an a lyrical earnestness that bears the aura of  passing times of downtrodden rurality. It feels classically vintage and tastefully modern, as they blend together the…

Larcenist’s lyrics weave together stories of small towns and changing times with expert harmonies and foot-stomping fiddle playing. The new video was filmed by Larcenist guitar/keys player Jonathan Schoeck and highlights the imagery in the band’s tale of being true to one’s soul. It looks like it was a ton of fun to film so…

Larcenist – Starless

Larcenist – Starless I’m really excited about Boston’s Larcenist getting back into the studio.  They’ve been playing all over the Northeast area for the last year, and now they are bringing “doomfolk” into Q Division studios for a second full length.  Check out a recording of their song “Starless,” which likely will be on the record in question.  The song was recorded live in Bryan Minto’s home in Providence, RI. “Starless” features a reverby almost spacey vocal style which gives an instant feeling distance and volume.  Its quickly becoming a favorite of mine, and I am really looking forward to…
