Photos | Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors + Josiah and the Bonnevilles @ Paradise Rock Club

Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors rolled the “Find Your People” tour into Paradise Rock Club this past Friday night and judging by the packed venue and the sing-alongs, that’s exactly what happened. With opening artist and TikTok sensation Josiah and the Bonnevilles setting up the night with full-participation singalong set of his own, that evening will go down in the memory banks as one to remember. The energy in the room was infectious for the Neighbor’s set, as the crowd sang along to hits like “All the Money in the World” and a cover of Adele’s “When We Were Young”.…

Photos + Review | Savages @ Paradise Rock Club

I fell for Savages’ debut, Silence Yourself, as soon as the knotty, groovy ostinato of Ayse Hassan’s bass eclipsed Gena Rowlands testy silence (in a clip from Cassavetes’ Opening Night) in answer to the question: “I’m 65. How old are you?” It’s as if the song – the entire record – is some sort of rejoinder: the chiaroscuro photo on the album cover reveals that while the four women who make up Savages are some distance from retirement age, they want nothing to do with the day-glo skin-bearing that signifies youth in pop music. You couldn’t ask for more from a record:…

Photos + Review | Father John Misty @ The Paradise

Photos by Boston Concert Photography Tuesday night was rife with anticipation. It’d be a few years since we saw the sass factory that is Father John Misty, and we all here at Music Savage are particularly fond of his catalog of music, his stage dancing, and his banter. Settling in to a packed Paradise Rock Club, with the lights down low, and an unlit “No Photography,” neon sign adorning the background of the stage, I couldn’t help but feel some anxiety about what could happen on stage over the next few hours. As the lights came up, Misty started the…

Photos | The Lone Bellow w/ Will Dailey @ The Paradise Rock Club

Brooklyn’s The Lone Bellow kicked off their 2015 tour right here in Boston on Thursday, February 12th at the Paradise Rock Club. The sold-out crowd was rewarded for finding a way to the venue through the arctic tundra with a barnburner of a show that melted the hearts and minds of even the most frozen of souls. The trio recently released their fantastic sophomore LP, Then Came The Morning, and it has taken the Americana music world by storm. One thing you can expect from a Lone Bellow show is that the audience will already know all the words to the new material…

Tonight | The Lone Bellow w/ Aoife O’Donovan – Paradise Rock Club

[W]ay back in early January we began to sing the praises of a new band out of Brooklyn known as The Lone Bellow. They released a video for their first single “Two Sides of Lonely” and soon thereafter came the debut, self-titled album. Since that time let’s just say that things have picked up quite a bit for the New York trio. They have gone from openers to headliners in less than a year, with a hugely successful stop at the star making Newport Folk Festival in July playing a tremendous part in their sudden and much deserved popularity. The…

Photo Review | Django Django @ The Paradise

Humble for a band that was in consideration for the Mercury Prize, Django Django effused sincere thanks for playing Boston. Their kaleidoscopic visuals were a treat for an otherwise dimly lit stage, and offered haunting accompaniment that echoed the band’s shadowy video for “Hand of Man” (complete with over-sized tambourine). Even though it was a Monday night show, the enthused Vincent Neff urged on the willing crowd to overhead clap and join the dance.  And they did.

New Video / Dates | Kingsley Flood

Kingsley Flood “Quiet Quiet Ground” from Lunar Pictures LLC on Vimeo. Check out Kingsley Flood, and their brand new video shot for their upcoming CMJ showcase, Oct. 22.  Using every cliché in the book, chain linked fence, railroad tracks, & brick walls, may be passé but their music speaks for itself. They play americana folk music in a completely different way.  They fill a room with energy like a punk show, but play with the rootsy, folk sound that superimposes you into a country kind of feel. They have a fantastic debut album entitled, Dust Windows, which can be streamed on…
