40. Patrick Watson – Adventures in Your Own Backyard – Patrick Watson is gaining steam with lush orchestrated indie-rock / folk songs that seem to float and quiver over this excellent album that was remarkably recorded in the singer’s apartment. There are vast sounds coming from every angle, and Watson uses his voice to fog over these orchestrations creating a huge sound that will delight you from every angle. Check out Into Giants, a very Simon & Garfunkel(y) sound as well as the title track that will spin your head. Listen: Patrick Watson – Into Giants | Buy: Adventures In…

[A] child that can dance like this makes for a really fun video. The boys from Saint Motel put together this video for their standout track “Benny Goodman,” off of their album Voyeur, an ode to the “King of Swing.” This little guy could make the Jackson Six, it lends a fun, light-hearted story about believing in yourself to a child who is brimming with talent, but it’s just unseen. Saint Motel – Benny Goodman [A]nother track was released form Los Angeles’ Saint Motel’s upcoming record Voyeur (July 10th). “Benny Goodman,” a new single paying homage to Benny Goodman the “King of Swing.” The track spans genres today between modern pop / rock and Goodman’s big band era taking samples and cues straight from the era. It’s an exciting song that has the soul of Goodman’s music in a contemporary rock / pop song. Voyeur will release next month, pre-order it below. Saint Motel – 1997 LA’s Saint Motel recently released a new track, “1997,” an ode “to the friendships forged in the Heaven’s Gate cult.” (their words not mine but altogether too good to not post). The pop influenced track really hooks you in its first minute, you are going to be playing this one over and over again. Its got a bit of retro feel, a bit big bandy, but is full of joyous melodies that will really please the ear. Look for 1997 to appear on their upcoming record, Voyeur, out July 10th. http://www.saintmotel.com/
Saint Motel has recently released a new video for their fantastic track “At Least I Have Nothing,” a synthpop / rock track that has a cinematic almost Tron-like sound. Its a track that I originally talked about back in November, and one that I still go back to again and again. The rock / synth soundscape is irresistible, and if you haven’t grabbed the 7″ now’s the time. Grab the 7?
