The six-piece band have just signed with Last Gang Records /eOne, and will be releasing their ninth studio album, There Is No Love In Fluorescent Light, on October 13th, 2017. Stars are Evan Cranley, Chris McCarron, Amy Millan, Patty McGee, Chris Seligman and Torquil Campbell. Photos | Stars + Jets Overhead – Aladdin Theater (PDX)

Photos by Colin McLaughlin [T]here are people that are crushed by sadness, and then there are others that hold out hope for what comes after. Stars have always struck me as the latter. The types that will cheers heartache in a concert, because they see our days as a series of beautiful chances. “We wouldn’t have pop songs without it,” they said. I agree, it’s a fair trade, and one that they used to their advantage, no matter how sweet or sour their words ended up being. In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting their performance to be so exuberant. I…

Preview | Stars at Aladdin Theater (PDX)

[E]motional, dynamic, intense. This is what you can expect from a Stars show. And because those three things are like honey to a bee, Music Savage is jumping at the chance to cover their Portland show at the Aladdin Theater. They’ll be supporting The North (out now) and its choice tracks (see: “Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Get It“), but we’re sure they’ll also play some of those Set Yourself on Fire cuts you still jones for too. Dap. Join us on November 7th by getting a ticket here, and come say hi if you…

New Music | Stars – The Theory of Relativity

Stars – The Theory of Relativity [C]anadian indie – poppers, Stars have announced their new album, The North, which will be released September 4 on ATO Records. The North, was recorded in Montreal’s historic RCA Victor Studios and was produced by Stars, Graham Lessard and Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire). The first cut is the celestial (pun intended) “The Theory of Relativity,” a super synthy shimmering pop track that feels fuller and of wider breadth than anything we heard on The Five Ghosts.  The production really opened up their sound and filled some of what seemed a shade flat on their last…

Stars – The Five Ghosts and a Giveaway!

Wasted Daylight

Stars’ newest album, The Five Ghosts, brings the expected narrative of romantic tragedy as one would expect, with songs titled as ‘Dead Hearts’ and ‘I Died So I Could Haunt You,’ and their usual, down-tempo melodramatic new wave sound.  The album is a bit more glum than some of the previous efforts, but tracks such as  Wasted Daylight bring the album to a height that complements the more gloomy tracks on the album.  Despite what might seem like a drawback to the album has some interesting moments and lyrically and vocally are really well done.

To top this off, I’m giving away a pair of tickets to see Stars with Wild Nothing and a meet-and-greet with the band here in Boston at the House of Blues on September 23rd.  You can enter by leaving a comment, RT this tweet, or leaving a comment on the facebook page.  I’ll pick a winner next monday
