New Music | Telekinesis – Ghosts and Creatures

Really really excited to hear Telekinesis will be releasing another record. Michael Benjamin Lerner has a way of building this guitar-pop tracks that are instant earworms. The first taste of this new record, Dormarion, which releases April 2nd, is “Ghosts and Creatures” a moody piano-pop based track with a heartbeat pulse and a ton of ghostly reverb. It’s a shift in aesthetic that feels like part of a maturation of Lerner himself, and possibly part of him working with Jim Eno on the recording. Dormarion, out April 2, 2013 on Merge Records.

Top 50 Albums of 2011 40-36

We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm.  Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I’m going to do so through the use of a list.  It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I’m going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. 40. Floating Action – Desert Etiquette Floating Action – Rincon The dusty, jangly Desert Etiquette is Floating Action’s second release. The album has a great old feeling, its style is rather distinguishably indistinguishable, with elements of many styles,…

Video | Telekinesis – Country Lane

Telekinesis just released the video for their track “Country Lane” off their 2011 album 12 Desperate Straight Lines.  Its not a secret that I’m a huge fan of Michael and his band (who doesn’t love a drummer that sings).  The album was released back in early 2011 and its nice to get a reminder of how much I enjoyed this and many of their other songs from this album.  It was on a constant loop for a good month and for good reason.  It was one of the funnest power-pop delights I heard, and I definitely have great memories of…

Video | Telekinesis – Please Ask For Help

Its not a mystery that I love Telekinesis, and that I think Michael Lerner is one of the nicest guys in music. I accidentally missed posting this video, but I couldn’t help it because I love the song. The opening guitar riff belongs in a John Hughes movie, and I really can’t get enough of 12 Desperate Straight Lines; Telekinesis has a superb ability to write fantastic pop songs that are reminiscent of the past yet have a modern contemporary feel. It’s this pop sensibility that draws me to their music. I urge you, if you are in to them…

Review | Telekinesis – 12 Desperate Straight Lines

Car Crash Seattle power pop outfit Telekinesis released a second album, 12 Desperate Straight Lines, February 15 via Merge.  After listening to the album a dozen or so times, one can realize that Michael Benjamin Lerner (the architect of the entire Telekinesis world) has about 500 ways to write breakup, heartbreak, & lovelorn songs.  What Lerner does so well, is he takes this similarity in theme and puts them into relatively fun, poppy, hooky songs that are a complete façade for these more unpleasant themes. It’s that façade, and Lerner’s whispy, crooning yet poppy voice that make these songs so…

Telekinesis – Car Crash

Car Crash Seattle power pop outfit Telekinesis announced they will release a second album, 12 Desperate Straight Lines, February 15 via Merge.  The single from the upcoming album, entitled “Car Crash” has that same power pop punch that you’d expect from Michael Lerner.  It’s totally fun, got a great hook, and some sing-along harmonies that will get you humming along.  This might be the quickest two and a half minutes of your life. Lerner and bandmates will hit the road in February, just after the album release, check the dates below and see them when they come to your city. Telekinesis tour…
