New Music | The Felice Brothers – Aerosol Ball

It’s Monday. It’s blah outside and inside here in New England as the weather tries to decide if we’re actually going to get a spring. What gets you through an afternoon like this? Well, coffee will certainly help, but this new drop from The Felice Brothers will likely do just as much. The lovable troupe has just released the first single off their upcoming album Life In the Dark (pre-order here) and it’s every bit the accordion-squeezing, tambourine-whacking, foot-stomping joy you’d hope it would be. Is it a bitter, crooked love song? A commentary on the commercialism that so defines our everyday being…

New Music | The Felice Brothers – Lion

[S]uper excited about a new record from the Catskills’ sons The Felice Brothers. If you’ve seen this band live, you can understand why they have such a great following, their shows are raucous, fun, and at times soulful. This band has also done great stuff musically, and this second single “Lion,” is hitting just the right notes. It’s got the energy of their live set, that same inventive, engrossing folk music that the fans love, the splashes of that iconic accordion sound & gang chorals. It’s a breath of fresh air, energetic and totally fun to listen to. Favorite Waitress…

Sunday at Newport Folk Festival in Photos

Beck [I]t’s hard to believe that the festival was just last weekend. Sunday was a welcome repeat of clear skies and a warm sun shining down on the Fort. There were a lot of acts we wanted to see and there was no time to sit idly by. Among the numerous performers were Cold Specks, Andrew Bird, Tift Merritt, The Felice Brothers, Spirit Family Reunion, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Joe Fletcher, Michael Kiwanuka, The Lumineers and a grand finale with Beck. Enjoy the final in photos from our photographer, Jamie Reiley, and let us know what your favorite act or acts…

Tonight! Deer Tick with The Felice Brothers

Deer Tick – Miss K. Fresh off the release of Divine Providence, Rhode Island based boozy rockers Deer Tick will be playing a sold out show here in Boston to crowds of Tick heads dying to hear some their favorite tracks off of DP. The new album is a healthy representation of exactly how a Deer Tick show sounds. It’s a raw, drunken boot stomper that may have turned off some critics (but who gives a shit) but I for one am a huge fan of it. I’ve seen these guys a handful of times, every show has a personality,…

New Music | Felice Brothers – Ponzi

The Felice Brothers recently released first track off their new LP ‘Celebration, Florida‘ entitled ‘Ponzi‘. The album will arrive May 10th & the band will be touring this album throughout the summer with Shovels & Rope. Ponzi has a little bit of a different sound from the normal Felice Brothers fare. The sound is a little more full from the normal stripped down nature of their music. Its got a choir background harmony, a smooth bassline, and a very epically big electronic finish (tough to explain…just listen). http://www.thefelicebrothers.com/

I revisit The Felice Brothers

Run Chicken Run (Yonder is the Clock) Penn Station (Yonder is the Clock) Frankies Gun! (The Felice Brothers) I had bought the Felice Brothers’ self titled album and was absolutely floored by their ability to recapture a turn of the century feel with their music.  It seems as though their style mixes many music styles; delta blues, folk and americana.  Their self titled album really got a lot of play out of me and then in 2009 they came out with a brand new album, I was straight to the store to purchase Yonder is the Clock.  After one or…
