Photos + Review | Mandolin Orange + My Bubba @ The Sinclair

It was fantastic to come out to Cambridge’s Sinclair, walk towards the stage and see that it was near impossible to find a place to stand. We’d all packed in to see a band who’s latest release is a palette of intimacy and emotion from two of the most sincere and genuine artists I’ve come across. The Sinclair was packed elbow to elbow, and was intensely focused on Andrew Marlin, and Emily Frantz every harmony. And boy can they harmonize, and leave you awestruck. It’s hard to imagine a band or artist out there that comes across more sincere than…

Black Pistol Fire @ The Sinclair

To say we were excited to experience Black Pistol Fire last week at the Sinclair is an understatement. I’ve certainly experienced their records, but having not seen them, I prepped myself catching a boatload of videos of their live shows. It’s obvious listening to their records the live show was going to be amazing in that “holy shit these guys sound amazing live” way. Touring on their newest record, Don’t Wake the Riot, which dropped last month, I settled in, whiskey in hand to a lively crowd (understatement) at the Sinclair. From the second the Austin via Toronto Band stepped…

Photos + Review | Tobias Jesso Jr. + Wet @ The Sinclair

Last Sunday night, Tobias Jesso Jr. returned to the Boston area after what seemed like five years, for those who have been waiting to see him. In reality, it’s been about 7 months since the 6’7″ singer songwriter set foot on Massachusetts soil. Back in March, Jesso Jr. packed the upstairs at the Middle East and had the scalpers grabbing $100 a pop for a ticket. With that performance, Jesso Jr. seemed to further the mystique that surrounded him by putting on a note-perfect solo performance of songs from his oft-praised debut effort, Goon. This time around, Tobias was joined…

Photos | Langhorne Slim + Twain @ The Sinclair

As we move into fall here in Massachusetts, we see the return of a lot of things: students, traffic, and cold weather, just to name a few. On the upside, we start to see the concert scene kick into overdrive. And the return of Langhorne Slim and The Law to the area helps to mark the beginning of what promises to be an insanely good season for live music fans in the greater Boston area. On Monday evening, a crowd dressed mostly in the garb of early New England fall (read: shorts / skirt, long sleeve top and open footwear)…

Photos + Review | JD McPherson + Dylan Pratt @ The Sinclair

Photos by Boston Concert Photography On Wednesday, March 4th us winter-weary Boston folks got a much needed southern heatwave in the form of JD McPherson and his band of rhythm and blues brothers. The jet stream pulled the rockabilly currents directly from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, right through the doors of the Sinclair, to create a hip-twisting tornado of guitar-fueled energy. McPherson shimmied and shook across the stage as though he had been possessed by Elvis himself, while Jimmy Sutton (upright bass), Jason Smay (drums), Ray Jacildo (keys), and Doug Corcoran (saxophone/guitar) kept the rock n’ roll storm swirling around the…

Photos + Review | Shakey Graves + Joe Sundell + Esme Patterson @ The Sinclair

Photos by Boston Concert Photography Well last Friday night the sold-out Sinclair crowd was treated to a spectacular show of rock n’ roll force when Austin musician, Alejandro Rose-Garcia, aka Shakey Graves, reminded us all of how a great live show is supposed to go down. Along for the ride were fellow Texas musician Joe Sundell and Denver songstress Esme Patterson, both of whom paved the way to our collective hearts with fantastic opening sets. Shakey took to the stage to thunderous applause and immediately kicked into the high-octane number “Roll The Bones,” which got everyone shaking along as the night’s…

Photos | Spirit Family Reunion + Thick Wild + Spitzer Space Telescope @ The Sinclair

Photos by Boston Concert Photography Bearing witness to Spirit Family Reunion selling out The Sinclair in Harvard Square furthers the current tide that seems to be rolling through many channels today: work for it, live it, and it will happen. Over the past few years, SFR have become well known for working their modestly sized audiences into foot-stomping, hand-clapping, throat-throttling sweats while belting out tunes that are reminiscent of a simpler time in our culture. Attending one of their shows was kind of like being in on a speakeasy. Your friends would tell you you should get to one of…
