Photos + Review | Chicano Batman + 79.5 + Sad Girl @ The Sinclair

Tuesdays don’t usually have much going for them. It’s just a boring, mostly ignored day of the week you pretty much just try to get through. I don’t care for Tuesdays, unless of course there is an amazing show to attend that makes you want to dance like it is Friday night. On March 28th the Music Savage gang, and a few hundred of our friends, had a particularly fantastic Tuesday because we had all day to anticipate an evening of soulful, Latino grooves with Los Angeles band Chicano Batman. The band is currently on tour in support of their fantastic new album, Freedom is Free, which…

Photos | Alan Doyle + Donovan Woods @ The Sinclair

There aren’t many things that are guaranteed in today’s world, but having a good time at an Alan Doyle show is one thing you can count on. This past Thursday night, Mr. Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies graced the stage of one of the best venues in the region when they took the stage at The Sinclair in the heart of Harvard Square. Opening with a solo and a toast, Alan proceeded to work his way through a set covering his solo material and a handful of classics (I think we can call the that now) from the Great Big…

Photos & Review | Nikki Lane w/ Brent Cobb, Jonathan Tyler @ The Sinclair

On a chilly March night in Cambridge, Massachusetts a storm of good ol’ southern rock n’ roll, aptly named the “Stagecoach Spotlight Nikki Lane Highway Queen Tour,” blew into The Sinclair directly from the south bringing with it some of the most talented musicians that side of the Mason-Dixon line. The crowd was treated to three stellar acts, each bringing enough charm and style to light up the stage for a few hours and make us forget we were still in winter’s grasp. First up was Dallas, TX musician Jonathan Tyler. Armed with only a guitar he quickly got to work setting…

Photos + Review | Mandolin Orange + My Bubba @ The Sinclair

It was fantastic to come out to Cambridge’s Sinclair, walk towards the stage and see that it was near impossible to find a place to stand. We’d all packed in to see a band who’s latest release is a palette of intimacy and emotion from two of the most sincere and genuine artists I’ve come across. The Sinclair was packed elbow to elbow, and was intensely focused on Andrew Marlin, and Emily Frantz every harmony. And boy can they harmonize, and leave you awestruck. It’s hard to imagine a band or artist out there that comes across more sincere than…

Black Pistol Fire @ The Sinclair

To say we were excited to experience Black Pistol Fire last week at the Sinclair is an understatement. I’ve certainly experienced their records, but having not seen them, I prepped myself catching a boatload of videos of their live shows. It’s obvious listening to their records the live show was going to be amazing in that “holy shit these guys sound amazing live” way. Touring on their newest record, Don’t Wake the Riot, which dropped last month, I settled in, whiskey in hand to a lively crowd (understatement) at the Sinclair. From the second the Austin via Toronto Band stepped…

Photos + Review | Tobias Jesso Jr. + Wet @ The Sinclair

Last Sunday night, Tobias Jesso Jr. returned to the Boston area after what seemed like five years, for those who have been waiting to see him. In reality, it’s been about 7 months since the 6’7″ singer songwriter set foot on Massachusetts soil. Back in March, Jesso Jr. packed the upstairs at the Middle East and had the scalpers grabbing $100 a pop for a ticket. With that performance, Jesso Jr. seemed to further the mystique that surrounded him by putting on a note-perfect solo performance of songs from his oft-praised debut effort, Goon. This time around, Tobias was joined…

Photos | Langhorne Slim + Twain @ The Sinclair

As we move into fall here in Massachusetts, we see the return of a lot of things: students, traffic, and cold weather, just to name a few. On the upside, we start to see the concert scene kick into overdrive. And the return of Langhorne Slim and The Law to the area helps to mark the beginning of what promises to be an insanely good season for live music fans in the greater Boston area. On Monday evening, a crowd dressed mostly in the garb of early New England fall (read: shorts / skirt, long sleeve top and open footwear)…
