Photos + Review | Brent Cobb & The National Reserve @ The Sinclair

Brent Cobb’s soulful blue collar country stylings captivated us last week, at The Sinclair. Cobb and his band “Them” delivered us from the red brick of Harvard yard to the mythological land of rural Georgia. After hitting the road opening for Chris Stapleton throughout ’19 it’s pretty obvious these guys have picked up a few things for captivating a huge audience. We were just lucky to be in a much smaller venue, and could feel guitarist Mike Harris’ slide guitar set your hair back and Cobb’s warm vocal delivery that’s a little friendly and has a little bite to it..…

Photos + Review | Charly Bliss + Emily Reo @ The Sinclair

Charly Bliss is a band that looks how they sound— eccentric, colorful, and bubbly. The band gave an energetic and loving performance to a sold out Sinclair crowd Sunday, June 9th. Donned in glitter, all four members bounced around the stage, leaving no dull moments. Emily Reo opened the show with a charming performance that coupled perfectly with the show. They delivered a catchy, indie-pop set with beautiful electronic harmonies and plenty of tasteful keytar. Emily made sure not to leave without taking a video of the crowd singing happy birthday to her mom. Lead singer of Charly Bliss, Eva…

Photos | Rayland Baxter + Illiterate Light @ The Sinclair

If there’s one thing you’re guaranteed with a Rayland Baxter show it’s a damn good time. Add in a little Illiterate Light and you’ve got the makings of a what-the-f-just-happened good time. This time round Rayland brought his crew to a sold-out gig at The Sinclair to play through crowd favorites old and new, bringing new spirit to his classics and new energy to songs off his new album Wide Awake. With all of the cool you expect from Rayland, he and his band of merry makers made trekking out on a freezing New England night 100% worth it. But…

Photos | Hiss Golden Messenger @ The Sinclair

There’s something about a group of incredible musicians—who also happen to be incredible friends—that can change not only your mood, but your outlook on the world around you. As we near Christmas and this peaceful, joyous time that stresses most of us the fuck out, I can’t emphasize enough how badly needed the Hiss Golden Messenger show at The Sinclair really was. HGM—always lead by MC Taylor—takes many forms, but the collective that took to the stage this past Monday was something special. You could feel it not only in the crowd, but from the energy being emitted from those…

Photos + Review | Newport Folk Presents: Colter Wall + Jade Bird @ The Sinclair

There’s a certain somber delight that comes with attending a performance by Colter Wall. While the subject of the songs you’re singing along to may range from being harassed by police, to infidelity and revenge homicide, to driving your motorcycle off a mountainside, there’s a comforting feeling that even in your loneliest hour, you’re never alone and there’s always another day ahead of you. Wall, an early-twenties Canadian Cowboy whose moody, husky baritone and classic songcraft have drawn the attention of music fans from Natuashish to Nashville, rolled into Cambridge this past Sunday to croon in front of a sold-out…

Photos | Darlingside + Twain @ The Sinclair

Anytime a hometown band returns to Boston, they’re bound to be met with exuberance. But to say the crowd at The Sinclair was excited to welcome Darlingside home would be a severe understatement. There was a palpable excitement throughout the venue last Thursday night, even before the lights dimmed to welcome the evening’s opening act Twain. Even before the first notes flew, there was a giddy anticipation from the folks close to the stage. Singing and rocking to the house music in anticipation of welcoming Darling side home. And the band—touring behind their brand new release Extralife, did not disappoint.…

Photos + Review | Black Pistol Fire & Blackfoot Gypsies @ The Sinclair

It’s becoming a recurring scene, the Music Savage gang flocking to the Sinclair to catch even a glimpse of the nuclear power factory that is Black Pistol Fire. On the heels of their most recent release, Deadbeat Graffiti, the YYZ come ATX band descended on our little town to set our hair on fire. Opening the night was Nashville’s Blackfoot Gypsies, whom against most any other band could steal the show. Their southern rock / blues / americana sound brings the sound of the Stones and Chuck Berry with a rock-and-roll swagger that is nearly unmatched. Playing songs from their…

Photos + Review | Chicano Batman + 79.5 + Sad Girl @ The Sinclair

Tuesdays don’t usually have much going for them. It’s just a boring, mostly ignored day of the week you pretty much just try to get through. I don’t care for Tuesdays, unless of course there is an amazing show to attend that makes you want to dance like it is Friday night. On March 28th the Music Savage gang, and a few hundred of our friends, had a particularly fantastic Tuesday because we had all day to anticipate an evening of soulful, Latino grooves with Los Angeles band Chicano Batman. The band is currently on tour in support of their fantastic new album, Freedom is Free, which…

Photos | Alan Doyle + Donovan Woods @ The Sinclair

There aren’t many things that are guaranteed in today’s world, but having a good time at an Alan Doyle show is one thing you can count on. This past Thursday night, Mr. Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies graced the stage of one of the best venues in the region when they took the stage at The Sinclair in the heart of Harvard Square. Opening with a solo and a toast, Alan proceeded to work his way through a set covering his solo material and a handful of classics (I think we can call the that now) from the Great Big…
