Song of the Week | We Were Promised Jetpacks – Hanging In

The WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” spotlight is brightly focused on the killer new single, “Hanging In,” off the upcoming album, The More I Sleep The Less I Dream, from Edinburgh’s We Were Promised Jetpacks. We have been huge fans of the Scottish band since their outstanding debut album, These Four Walls, was released in 2009.

Since that time it’s been a hectic few years of writing, recording and touring for the band. With 2011’s In the Pit of the Stomach and 2014’s Unravelling the guys have traveled the world numerous times over, growing their fan-base exponentially in every country they visited. That kind of non-stop schedule would take a toll on anybody! They returned home to reconnect with family and focus on writing the new record, which will be self-released on September 14th.

We Were Promised Jetpack are Adam Thompson (vocals/guitar), Michael Palmer (guitar), Sean Smith (bass) and Darren Lackie (drums), and as I have said many, many times here on the site…these guys are a force to be reckoned with live! We are very fortunate here in Boston because they frequent our city on a regular basis and will return once again on Friday, October 26th for a stop at Brighton Music Hall.

One word. GO!

Photos + Review | We Were Promised Jetpacks & Seoul @ The Sinclair

On Monday, December 7th, a gale-force wind blew into Cambridge by way of Edinburgh and shook the Sinclair with ferocious energy. No, this wasn’t a weather system emanating from high atop Arthur’s Peak, it was in fact Scotland’s veritable purveyors of unrestrained rock n’ roll, We Were Promised Jetpacks. Playing to a packed house on the last night of a tour that began back in February, which took them across the planet and back again, the band let loose with a barrage of enthusiastic energy normally reserved for an opening night set. With three full-length albums to their name Jetpacks…

New Music | We Were Promised Jetpacks – I Keep It Composed

[E]verytime a new single is released from the forthcoming We Were Promised Jetpacks album, Unravelling, I scratch my head in amazement that the Scottish 5-piece are not yet filling up stadium sized arenas full of crazed fans. The latest track to be shared from the band’s third album is the surging “I Keep It Composed,” a bass-heavy, emotionally driven song, hell-bent on grabbing a hold of your head and not letting go. The addition of multi-instrumentalist Stuart McGachan has added an intensity of sound to an already energetic, and tightly composed, sonic machine. These guys are the real deal! You know it,…

New Music | We Were Promised Jetpacks – Safety In Numbers

We Were Promised Jetpacks

[T]hey may not yet have attained their professed mode of aerial transportation but ever since We Were Promised Jetpacks released their debut album, These Four Walls, back in 2009, their trajectory has been continuously skyward. The now five-piece Scottish rockers – with the addition of multi-instrumentalist Stuart McGachan – are readying their third album, Unravelling, for release this Fall, and we are happy to share with you the first single “Safety In Numbers.”

If this new song is any indication of what the rest of the forthcoming album sounds like we are in for a helluva good time! “Safety In Numbers” is made for blasting off arena walls with its pounding drums and soaring guitars, and as these guys are touring machines it’s a safe bet that will indeed happen one of these days. Speaking of touring they hit the road again this October to promote Unravelling and they have a stop here in Boston on November 20th. I have seen them live numerous times and can say with all honesty this will be a show you won’t want to miss.

Until then enjoy “Safety In Numbers” and then spend the rest of the day listening to their previous two albums. We’ll have more on WWPJ as the release date draws near.

New Music | We Were Promised Jetpacks – Peace Sign

[T]he lads of We Were Promised Jetpacks call Edinburgh, Scotland home, but if one takes a quick look at the band’s show schedule these last few years you’d find a hard-working, non-stop touring machine. Luckily they are the best of friends because their itinerary shows no signs of slowing. In June of 2009 WWPJ released their debut album, These Four Walls, conquering our shores with a tour alongside fellow countrymen Twilight Sad, and Frightened Rabbit, and have come back our way every year since. I have the ticket stubs to prove it! These Four Walls contains one of the single most…
