This cover of Wire’s Heartbeat shows shows off a soulful, wonderful voice in Sara Lucas; and opened me into further inspection to hear what else Callers has done. What I found in their album Life of Love is a collection of songs written and recorded that complement and enhance her sensual, soulful voice, Lucas sounds as though she’s come straight out of a 70’s soul session. The songs are sometimes dark and brooding and as they put it ‘cathartic.’
The band recently signed with western vinyl, and are about to go on tour. If you get the chance, I’d check them out.
