Chicago based Dastardly brings their mix of folk rock & western roots style (expect banjos, mandolins accordions and lap steel) to Jamaica Plain’s Milky Way Lounge. Part of their east coast tour their fantastic mix of traveling troupe folk, & old western sounds will have us bouncing all night long. Their critically acclaimed 2010 release ‘May You Never,’ shows off the bands warm, rich sounds that seem to be endlessly influenced from folk to punk (exercises in self loathing could be a thermals song).
By the record, this band seems to toil in the world of 30’s Americana music, but their tone is actual very lighthearted. They croon away into a self-depracating tone as in Middleground they mention “I’m not pretty enough for the mainstream, I’m not weird enough to be underground…” its this tone that immediately draws you in. Its serious enough to be legitimate but obviously their humor comes through the writing and its very enjoyable.
At this point, I can only imagine that this humor and fun will parlay into a really good time tonight, and it’s one I suggest you come and see.
