House of Wolves – 50’s

House of Wolves is the musical moniker of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Rey Villalobos, the name’s origin coming from the translation of Villa-lobos from Spanish to English.  The LA native’s debut album Fold In The Wind is a stripped down, beautifully dark collection of songs full of haunting melodies.  Villalobos’ tender voice obviously brings to mind Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens, though the arrangements are much more simplistic,  the music has a visceral feel to it, an almost inward looking approach that is quite exquisite.
