The Head and the Heart – No One To Let You Down
Following the 2010 release of their self-titled debut album and the subsequent 2011 re-release of the album on
SubPop, The Head and The Heart have been on the cover of Billboard, been named ‘Seattle’s Best New Band’, and performed on Late Night
with Jimmy Fallon and Conan. But they have never headlined a show in Boston. Until last Friday night. Unsurprisingly, the show was sold out.
The crowd was more than excited to see the group play, and with an opener like Cats and Dogs, everyone was dancing within the first thirty seconds. With only one album to their name, most of the night’s songs were familiar tunes. But the group did throw a couple unreleased/new tracks into the mix, all of which fit right into their established folksy sound.
Halfway through the set, THATH played Lost In My Mind and the crowd went crazy. The audience also cheered loudly when Charity stepped up to the mic for her first solo verse in Winter Song. Rivers and Roads, the show’s closer also got a huge sing-along. And there was no doubt about an encore because the band saved the best for last, a huge dancing sing-along for Down in the Valley.
Though THATH is a Seattle band through and through, their songs speak of coming and leaving home. As songwriters, THATH have an uncanny ability to make everywhere seem like home. And so last Friday night for their first headlining show in Boston at the Royale, it felt like they had finally come home.
