[O]n Saturday night, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band nearly brought down the walls of Berklee’s Cafe 939. Touring behind their new album “Between the Ditches” (iTunes) and riding the joy of being featured on CMT and MTV, the dynamic trio packed the “Red Room” wall to wall with foot-stomping fans who cheered and hollered at their every facial expression and string slide.

There’s no doubt the Reverend is an entertainer through and through and with a sound that’s just begging to be featured on a number of  A&E and History Channel shows, I’m gonna lay money down you’ll be hearing more and more of these folks. Take heed, foot stomping moonshine lovers… there’s a new Reverend in town.

Opening up for the Reverend on this stretch of dates were the Mississippi-based family-sized group, Rosco Bandana. I’m not gonna wax poetic here, this troupe of young musicians is one you really need to get out and see. Just do it.

Also touring behind their latest effort “Time to Begin” (iTunes), there doesn’t seem to be much territory these guys can’t cover. Displaying musicianship far beyond their apparent collective years, Rosco blended sounds from a whole host of genres. Skynyrd, Black Crowes, Allman Brothers, Gogol Bordello… hell I can’t even figure out how not to make it sound like a hot mess. You’re just gonna have to trust me on this one, the music sounds much better than those words read.

While both bands kicked ass in their own right and the wall rattling effect was the same, the pairing of the two bands was a bit off. If Rosco Bandana can land an opening slot with a band like The Lumineers, you can bet you’ll be hearing a lot more about these guys as well.
