Album Review – Ima Robot – Another Man’s Treasure

Indie Dance/Punk band Ima Robot released their newest album Another Man’s Treasure last week.  Its an hour long foray in experimental electronic rock.  It’s rather softer than previous efforts but I think this is what makes this album that much more accessible.  For those who don’t know it, this is Alex Ebert’s previous project, before he became Edward Sharpe. Opening single, Ruthless, was released with a couple of videos back in September.  Upon the first listen through of the new album, Another Man’s Treasure feels like the Ima Robot is experimenting with softer, more electronic rock sound.   Tracks like,  Life…

New Music | He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister

Tales that I Tell Los Angeles’ He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister is no ordinary folk band.  They have such a great eclectic sound, that ranges from psychedelic to jazz to country to swing.  Evidenced in track Tales that I tell, He’s My Brother She’s my Sister is one great sounding band.  They are currently touring with Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and for good reason.  They’ve got a similar feel, and they seriously are putting out some fantastic music. Their recently released EP, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister EP, is 7 songs that are all totally solid.…

Profile | One Hello World

Through Everything, I’m There I’m always stumbling about on the internet so a lot of things come across my eyes and ears.  When I’m blown away at the content I see, I make a note of it, usually to share with others.  Enter One Hello World, a website created by a musician living in Wichita, KS. OHW has a phone number that you can call and leave a voicemail and a soundtrack to your thoughts is written and produced and put on the website. He asks, to call (316) 247-0421 and tell your thoughts and he’ll write the soundtrack. One in…

New Music | Bad Books

You Wouldn’t Have to Ask Bad Books is a side project featuring Kevin Devine and Andy Hull (of Manchester Orchestra.)  Without any real concept or reasoning other than to write music together while away from MO, the two realized an entire album together.  The self-titled debut was released October 19th, 2010 via Favorite Gentlemen Recordings, the record label that was founded and has been run by Manchester Orchestra since 2007. What comes out is 35 minutes of really good music.  Although you can hear the differences (or what seems to be differences) between songs written by Devine and Hull respectively,…

New Music | Cold War Kids – Royal Blue

Royal Blue Cold War Kids are releasing a new album January 25, 2011 called Mine Is Yours.  The lead single off that upcoming album is Royal Blue.  I really dig the bass line, and am still really enjoying Cold War Kids loose style, they seem to sound over the hump here, the sound is fun, and still incorporates their signature howling vocals. Can’t wait to hear more from this album.

Cover Song | Ray Lamontagne – Crazy (Gnarls Barkley)

Crazy If you spent any time in 2006 you probably heard Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy.  A song that was everywhere you looked.  Fast forward to this cover, soulful crooner Ray LaMontagne covers Crazy, makes it his own, and its totally fantastic.  Can’t help but love this version of it.
