Artist Watch | Brian Wright

Accordion LA based artist, Brian Wright (www.brianwrightmusic.com), will be headlining three weeks of shows in NYC, Philadelphia and here in Boston in support of his new album ‘House on Fire’. On his most recent album, House on Fire, he wrote, produced, and played every instrument on the album.   Not only is he a fine songwriter, but took complete control of his artistic destiny on this album, and it comes across as a beautiful, honest, and thrilling piece of art; filled with blues sounds, and some harrowing songwriting. This show is a definite must see, and if you’ve got $8…

The Long Winters long awaited new single, Connections in Nashville

I’ve been a huge fan of the Long Winters since their release of When I Pretend to Fall, in 2003.  I’ve always enjoyed singer / songwriter John Roderick’s voice and tone in his writing.  He’s a fantastic songwriter, that has proven time and time again that he can write not only catchy songs, but emotionally poignant songs that have a lot of power. The new track,  Connections in Nashville, was created as a split single with band, Spiral Stairs.  It marks the first single from the Long Winters since 2006 release, Putting the Days to Bed.  Not sure if this…

new music … Nicole Atkins – Vultures

Vultures I was first exposed to Nicole Atkins last year when she had opened for the Avett Brothers on their winter tour.  I wasn’t sure what I was getting in to but kept an open mind; she was opening for one of my favorite acts so I assumed the best.  Atkins put on a great show, and her song Brooklyn’s on Fire was a definite standout during the show. Her new track, Vultures, which will appear on a forthcoming album entitled Mondo Amore, due out January 2011.  Check out the new track, if you like it, you can download it…

Check Out: The Thermals’ Never Listen to Me

Never Listen to Me The Thermals released another track from their EP Personal Life, which will get a proper 7-inch release on October 19.  This track lacks the normal wild energy that the Thermals bring, but it’s still a pretty catchy track, with all of the normal fuzzy guitar grime that you’d normally expect from them. Personal Life is available on KillRockStars

Album: The Walkmen’s Lisbon

After a dozen or so listens through, The Walkmen’s Lisbon stands out as one of my favorite albums of 2010.  Their emotional lyrics, jangly guitars and stripped down percussion is there as usual. The album kicks off with ‘Juveniles’ a bouncy jangly song complete with their shimmering guitars and Leithauser’s howling / crying-like voice.   One of my favorite tracks comes on second, Angela Surf City, a rollicking rock song that employs a ramped up tempo build, and some real evocative vocals which really makes this track the most powerful and passionate song on the album, its really unlike other…
