Video | Little Scream – Love as a Weapon

Really digging the new music I have been hearing from Montreal-based musician Laurel Sprengelmeyer’s project known as Little Scream. The singer was born and raised in Iowa and moved to Montreal to be a part of the city’s rich musical landscape, and the musicians she met helped to create her debut album The Golden Record in 2011. This past January Sprengelmeyer signed with Merge Records and her new Little Scream album, Cult Following, will be released on May 6th, 2016. The first single, “Love as a Weapon,” is a super catchy track that turns any ol’ day into a strut…

Photos + Review | Deer Tick + Mutual Benefit @ Somerville Theatre

Wednesdays, they don’t usually have much going for them. It’s just this boring old middle of the week day where you have just battled through the first two work days and the weekend is still a tease on the horizon. That’s why I pretty much hate Wednesdays. Unless of course there is an amazing show to attend that makes everything all right for a while. On March 16th the Music Savage gang, and a few hundred of our friends, had a particularly fantastic Wednesday because we had all day to anticipate an evening at Somerville Theater with Rhode Island’s one and…

Review | Trevor Sensor – Texas Girls and Jesus Christ EP

Each year, as winter bares it’s teeth toward the end of it’s reign in New England—here’s hoping I haven’t just cursed us—I find myself gravitating to songs that will pull me through the last few weeks of cold and darkness. One of the releases doing that this year is Texas Girls and Jesus Christ from Trevor Sensor. The lead single and album namesake,  feels much like the season change itself. “Texas Girls and Jesus Chris” starts off with a stark, cold feeling. Sparse instrumentation, Dylan-esque lyrics and vocals reminiscent of Kristian Matsson (A.K.A. The Tallest Man On Earth) quickly grab you by…

Malik Isaac Taylor (Phife Dawg)

There really isn’t any other hip-hop band more revered and respected than New York’s A Tribe Called Quest. I remember the moment I first heard that irresistible beat coming out of my portable boom-box after I got my hands on their first album (it was a cassette tape) People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm in 1990. Until that fateful day I was, for lack of a better description, a metal head. It was Iron Maiden and Metallica and Megadeth all day, every day. Don’t get me wrong I still love all of that, but it was the amazing…

New Music | Greyhounds – Devil’s Eyes

Austin duo Greyhounds are set to release their brand new album, Change of Pace, out April 1st via Ardent Music, and we have the video for the first single, “Devil’s Eyes,” to share with you fine folks. This is the second record on the legendary Memphis label, following the 2014 album Accumulator, and the Texas twosome have delivered another funky dose of soulful, southern goodness. The video for Devil’s Eyes is Austin-tastic (yep that’s a word) and, having lived in the live music capital of the world, it brings this Lonestar boy right back right back to his adopted home. …

New Music | Trevor Sensor – Texas Girls and Jesus Christ

From out of the winter cold comes a single from 22-year-old Jagjaguwar artist Trevor Sensor that should warm you from the cockles of your heart on through to the toes in your shoes. Many MS followers will likely make an immediate connection to the Tallest Man On Earth when they hear the Illinois native sing the first words to the single off of his debut EP (which is of the same name and dropping March 25th,) but that, my friends is not a bad thing, especially given that Kristian is now exploring variations to extremely captivating and popular approach. A notable…

Two RayLand Baxter shows in 6 days? Twist my arm. I didn’t hear that it had soLd out, but if it wasn’t, it couLdn’t…
