Mixtape | Indie Therapy Rock

Mixtape | Indie Therapy Rock

The title came from a conversation. I was talking with a friend about “Problem Solver” – slimdan, and he described it as “indie therapy rock.” I immediately told him I was stealing that.  It was too good, and i've been circling the playlist for a week or two now.

Just to note, this is not sad indie not self help, not breakup songs. It's therapy with guitars.

Songs where the lyrics feel like someone mid-process. Someone aware of their patterns. Someone trying to do better.

That’s what this playlist became.

Act I

The front half is all about awareness.

“Suffer” – Boy Golden
“Problem Solver” – slimdan
“Breathing the Same Air” – Petey USA

There’s humor in there. There’s deflection. There’s self-awareness that’s still a little raw it's not quite collapse just recognition.

Act II

Inward ho! Accountability?

“I Wanna Get Better” – Bleachers
“Emotional Fraud” – Jukebox the Ghost
“A Better Son/Daughter” – Rilo Kiley

What am i doing? Is this growth? Keep trying i guess.

Act III

Slow it down and reflect.

“Masterpiece” – Big Thief
“Good Arms vs Bad Arms” – Frightened Rabbit
“Helplessness Blues” – Fleet Foxes

Regret? Realization? Yeahhhh i'm not exceptional, just human.

Closer

It ends with “This Year” – The Mountain Goats on purpose, probably because I'm an optimist. Gonna make it through this year if it kills me.

💡
I fully realize these songs and their meanings could be entirely different, but this is my interpretation and it's my damn playlist.
