Eclecto-pop genius, yes I said it, Benji Hughes needs to be on your radar. He’s recently signed with Merge Records, and is releasing his record, *Songs in the Keys of Animals*. Fans of Hughes might have already had this record in their hands as Hughes self-released it digitally at the end of 2014\. A year later, and it’s been remixed and remastered, and I couldn’t be more excited about this music getting out there for everyone to hear.

A month ago saw the release of first single, “[Freaky Feedback Blues](https://soundcloud.com/mergerecords/benji-hughes-freaky-feedback-blues?ref=musicsavage.com),” and today he officially releases “Girls Love Shoes,” a track that is so on the nose, and it doesn’t really matter. If you get past the myopic fascination with what girls want, this is a song with bombasts (look at the sound graph) where hirsute Hughes mixes together pounding haze, HAL9000 sound effects, to make a space-age pop song with a pulsing beat.
