New Music | Benji Hughes - Girls Love Shoes
Eclecto-pop genius, yes I said it, Benji Hughes needs to be on your radar. He’s recently signed with Merge Records, and is releasing his record, Songs in the Keys of Animals. Fans of Hughes might have already had this record in their hands as Hughes self-released it digitally at the end of 2014. A year later, and it’s been remixed and remastered, and I couldn’t be more excited about this music getting out there for everyone to hear.
A month ago saw the release of first single, “Freaky Feedback Blues,” and today he officially releases “Girls Love Shoes,” a track that is so on the nose, and it doesn’t really matter. If you get past the myopic fascination with what girls want, this is a song with bombasts (look at the sound graph) where hirsute Hughes mixes together pounding haze, HAL9000 sound effects, to make a space-age pop song with a pulsing beat.
Songs in the Key of Animals, out January 29 via his new label Merge.
