That Feeling If you haven’t heard of Dent May, I wouldn’t blame you. He’s a musician from Mississippi who was popularized by his use of ukelele. It seems as though he’s put it down and made a summer synth heatwave cooling kind of song. It’s got the right vibe for a warm summer night, and is extremely catchy. The track comes from his upcoming release, and is free to download. http://dentmay.com/

Recorded live in studio in Muscle Shoals, AL during the making of their newest album, Brothers. The Black Keys continue to be one of the coolest rock bands around today. The eery nature of this song, the howling and airy sounds and Auerbach’s voice bring this song into a deep dark corner of your mind.
Fang Island, aptly named, and totally fun have become one of my go to workout ‘pump you up’ bands. Their self titled album is full of exploding jams that make you want to get up and move. Check out their video for Careful Crossers.
On and Ever Onward Mt. Wittenberg Orca is the new EP collaborative release from the Dirty Projectors and Bjork is amazing. All the proceeds from the album go to the National Geographic Society Oceans Project. Get some music, get some peace of mind and help the ocean. A must buy. Website
She & Him premiered their brand new video for their song Thieves over on Pitchfork.TV. The video filmed in a new film noir style features Zoey and M.Ward as children sending time traveling notes to their future selves.
Banished Be Cavalier Maps & Atlases gave us Solid Ground, the first track off their upcoming(at the time) album Perch Patchwork. I received it in April, and I really enjoyed it. I was curious what else would come, if this were a template for the rest of the music they’d include on the album. When I got Perch Patchwork, I instantly fell in love with it. The key & tempo changes, it was like a progressive folk, with dabs of psychedelia. I think at first these guys were put into a Math or Art Rock kind of category that was just…
Who doesn’t want to perform at Amoeba Music these days? The guys(and girl) from fanfarlo swooped into Amoeba to live record another great version of their song Luna from their album, Reservoir. If its an album you don’t already own, you should probably get on it.
There have been some real creative looking videos that I’ve been seeing lately, I love the effect of this one. The contrasty halftone effect is really fun to watch. I hate to single out Jack White on this one, but there is always something cool going on with the videos he is involved in. Either way, this song, and more importantly this album (Sea of Cowards) is great. A lot of fun to listen to, it just totally rocks.
